Always thought that the gt had the ultimate hood-reminds me of the xke. Lets a lot of heat out of the engine compartment. Just wondering the cost and whether the xkrs gt style hood vents could even be put on a xk or xkr? I would think it would be easier to have a shop louver an xk hood since its entirely smooth. The entire hood would have to be repainted after the louver process is done,

I'll keep my vents, I've never really cared for louvers anyway.

Here's the expensive XKR-S GT hood (bonnet):

If it was still available, add shipping, painting, and installation and you're probably well over US$6,000 (VAT excluded).

Agreed. And the X150 XKR vents are a unique design with the "supercharged" lettering and match the same lettering on the engine appearance cover. A nice design touch.

No Jaguar dealer will sell you one regardless, unless you have proof of already owning a -GT. You'd have to go second-hand for an OEM. I'm sure nobody makes an aftermarket, too small a market.

There are two (used?) bonnets for last fifty/Xkrs gt available in Europe (one in Germany and one in Poland). Prices are around 5-6k USD for a part alone.

Even if you have proof that you own an own an XKR-S GT or Final Fifty, you can't buy a new one from a dealer since they're "No Longer Available".

There’s probably a couple ‘out there somewhere’, but finding one will be time consuming and costly. Much cheaper to get a plain XK hood/bonnet and have a custom shop modify it.

If you can get access to one, you can 3D handheld laser scan the part and 3D print it in aluminum.

That would be one hellaciously large printer, and the structural integrity of printed sheets would be questionable at best. No way printed could be as sound as a stamped sheet.

You only need to scan the vents, everything else is the same.

.... and then what? TIG weld that section to a perfectly good XK hood? That's just dumb.

Welding in louvers and then dealing with warpage and grinding the welds smooth doesn't make sense. A shop could stamp some louvers into a smooth XK hood and then just get it repainted.

No I was looking into it, but it never went anywhere, just too damn expensive to do properly.

The factory bonnets were done that way, with the sections welded in.
I had a photo of one "half finished" but damned if I can find it now.

The problems with this were
- tooling had to be produced to match the curve of the bonnet (as it's not flat) and it needed two sets of tools, one of each side, which was $$$$$
- none of the companies I contacted had a press big/wide enough to accommodate a bonnet in one piece
- nobody wanted to take on the welding in of sections to an existing bonnet
- you had to start with an XK bonnet (not an XKR) and these aren't exactly stacked six-high in the wrecking yards...

These are the same hoods as the XKR Final Fifty edition. You may be able to find one of those, but it's probably easiest to just have a local body shop cut and bend the metal on an existing hood. To me, this doesn't look like a complex design, and it's nowhere near as classy or stylish as the upmarket ones you can get from Jaguar, but it should be fairly easy to replicate.
