Default Having Jaguar OEM wheels chromed

Has anybody had their OEM Jaguar wheels chromed by a professional who specializes in chroming parts?

Yep. I did by a chromer in California. Lasted about 2 years then I started to constantly experience low air pressure in each wheel. Come to find out it is a common problem with chrome wheels as they start to corrode under the tire bead. They also started to chip in various spots along the edge of the rim. Won't do it again.

Thanks John........be sure to sign into the 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Registry here on the forums. It's a list of 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition owners. Since there were only 200 convertibles distributed in the USA, I am trying to build a list of those owners.....see the following:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...gistery-96830/

I am not sure how many of the 200 are still on the road. I suspect most of them.

Richard,

Total 2009 XKR Portfolio production was 380; 200 ragtops and 180 coupes.

All are rare, but some are more rare than others depending on options.

Chrome electroplating is old technology; it is being phased out by OSHA due to environmental and safety concerns. The replacement technology is PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition), which is similar to powder coating and is much safer. Today's OEM "chrome" wheels are actually PVD.

If you curb a real chrome wheel, you have to replate the entire wheel - very expensive. PVD chrome wheels can be more easily repaired like painted wheels.

If you prefer the chrome look, have them done by PVD.

For a discussion of the differences between real chrome and PVD, see: Why PVD is Better Than Chrome for Your Rims - Discover how PVD works

Rich - I got my chromed wheels through the exchange program at California Chrome. Website:
California Chrome Wheel Inc. - OEM Factory Automotive Chrome Wheel Exchange Program Since I'm in S Cal I drove over and they did the exchange on the spot took about 40 minutes. Total cost was around 1k. They do have an extended warranty program. I didn't know about it at the time. I'm going to check it out next week. Thus far, I'm happy with the results. Regards,
