Default Headlight lens

I did search but found nothing for the XK150, so, can the lens be separated from the body and if so how, heat gun and a razor is what I am thinking but hope there is a better way. My passenger side lens is dark and, well just ugly but I happen to a spare housing with no mount tabs but a perfect lens, anyone here done a swap or have an idea?

It would probably be easier to find a complete assembly at a breakers or eBay. I have taken them apart before and it's not that easy or fun for the effort.

Throw the whole assembly (sans electrics) in an oven on low heat for a bit. Seriously. The butyl rubber will get gooey and the parts can be prised apart easily. Be careful though of errant strings of goo, as they can get on stuff and then doesn't like to come off.

The ranchero read is quite a read, not done with it yet but he confirmed my heat gun thought. My extra housing is great except all tabs are broken, shifting gears and going to attempt to repair it before I start heating things up.

I currently have several projects ongoing , updated bumper cover with fog lights and many of the plastic parts behind the scenes, headlight lense replacement and some smaller items, so no. I made the mistake a parking the car in a property I own 60 miles way to work on it, big mistake, I drive to get things done and realize I have the wrong part or need a part I did not know about, so back to procurement or engineering I go. Once I get things done I will follow up.

Only with a new assembly. Already attached. For $3,000 (or so).

I found a good housing with lense on ebay for pretty cheap, reason for cheap is all the tabs are broken and missing. The lense is perfect so have to separate both lenses and marry good housing with good lense.

I'm going to try and do the same. I've already taken the lense off once to buff but the lense is pitted. A heat gun works to take them apart. Mind telling us how much you paid or what a cheap price is for the ebay housing?

$164 with free shipping. I guess cheap is relative but this one is perfect except for the broken tabs. I have been wrapped up with other things so the headlight work is on hold till things cool off, which gives me time to figure out if I can rebuild the tabs to use the better one instead of swapping lenses.

Wow, that is cheap! The lowest price I've seen is around $350.

I would try to refinish the lens first if the housing is still good. Start with 300 grit then 600, 1000, 2000 and 3000(if you have it) then use buffing compound and wax. I have brought back many even with deep scratches. I have also used an oven at 160F for about 15 minutes or so with a gentle pry to separate the lens but a heat gun can perform the same function if you move it around enough.
