Question Headlight Washer Jet Cover Peeling

Sorry if this is addressed elsewhere but after hunting the forum I couldn't find anything relating to the 2007 XKR.

I noticed yesterday that my driver side headlight washer cover had started some sever bubbling and peeling. You don't notice it from a distance but close up it is really obvious (see photo).

Has anyone seen this before? And do you knw the part number for a replacement? I couldn't seem to find one.

Thanks

Ian

I've seen the part on eBay before (the whole washer mechanism, not just the cover).
You could search that, and perhaps find a part number. Or try an online dealer, like Gaudin (sp?) and drill down through the parts catalog.

Thanks so much, but not sure?? I saw that part # (C2P8256), but it looks like it is the nozzle not the cover (see this diagram: HEADLAMP COMPONENTS for 2007 Jaguar XK)

Unless the nozzle comes with the cover?

The nozzle is part of the entire slide-out shaft, about 9" long. The cover sort of rotates on two pins, one each side of the shaft. If you use a thin hook of some sort, you can pull the shaft out an inch or so and see for yourself.

Do as i did and do black end of story, you may have to sand down surface though , During the frosty weather my screen washer froze, and i gave it a squirt and the 2 headlight washers stayed out, luckily they went back in as the day heated up, no damage done.

Smooth out the bubbles with some light sanding and put some chrome tape on it to make it look original again.

@michaelodonnell123 Great Tip. Thanks for sharing. I am having an recurring engine light issue which Jaguar San Diego are trying to resolve, so got them to order me a replacement, just so I have it to replace when i am ready. I didn't ask them to fit it as they wanted to remove the headlight at a cost of $300+ I think I will try your idea in the meantime. Will post photos when complete.

Thanks. I was able to purchase the replacement but they wanted over $300 to replace this, saying the headlight would have to be removed and possible the front bumper!! Anyone got any tricks or tips for replacing this in a less expensive manner? I just spent $1800 and 3-weeks wait having a check engine light diagnosed and fixed, so running a bit low on the funding pool (i.e. the wife is starting to notice!!)

You can remove the headlamp yourself (very easy, and instructions are in your owner's manual). As the washer cover is part of the headlamp assembly there is no reason why the bumper needs to be removed.

WAIT! WAIT!!! The cover can be replaced WITHOUT removing the bumper OR the headlight assembly.
Get a small wire hook-like thing and pull the wiper arm straight forward out of the housing. Have someone hold it for you as you pull the cover off the two small plastic pins that are on the housing. It is SUPER easy. Put the new cover on the two pins (make sure you get the correct ones on each side, they are different), then let the wiper are retract.
The entire job should take you NO MORE than four minutes.

I figured that there had to be an easier way.

Will give this a try and report back soon. Cheers

@Cee Jay - You were spot on and took less than 2-minutes. I pulled out the cover and washer arm by pulling at the top and was able to hold the washer arm with my left hand. It was easy to pop off the cover and put on the new one. Thanks for the tip as it saved me a lot of money.

Nice call Cee Jay. On my X350, just to change a bulb you have to have either child size hands or, remove the front bumper cover, several engine parts and half the dash

Nice to know the engineers took mercy on this one.
