Default HELP! Top Down, Car won't start, top won't raise

2007 XK Conv

Help! The car is parked in front of my garage. The top is down however the car won't start or turn over. The front and rear lights are on and the radio will come on however the dash lights are not on. Top will not raise.

The car won't go in to neutral so I cannot push the car back into the garage. Top is down I cannot access the battery (I don't believe).

Any assistance greatly appreciated. Its getting dark on the east coast.....

Thanks George. I've had the car 1 day.

When I pull the 2 cup holders I only see the fuzzy box under the cup holders. Help locating the emergy hand brake release would be great.

Also, what is the use of the jump lead connetion?

If the battery is discharged, the vehicle can be started by using the positive terminal under the rubber boot just behind the LH rear wheel. Place the positive (red) connector of a jumper lead to the exposed connector and the negative (black) jumper lead on an accessible body part under the car.

Remove the jumper leads once the vehicle starts and recover the positive connection behind the LH rear wheel.

The battery is not dead. The front and rear lights are on. The radio is on. The start button is glowing red.

How do you manually release the shifter from park to neutral in a 2007?

Regardless of shifter . the park brake release is still the same look at the photo . remove cup holders and under that you will see the screw remove with a flat head driver then you can remove the flap giving access to the "park release "

Just because the lights and radio work doesn't mean the battery is delivering enough voltage.

Use the jumper leads connected to another vehicle as described in post number 4 above and report back.

In order to crank your engine your battery needs to register over 12 volts. In all likelihood you have the equivalent of a dead battery.. NB certified knows what he is writing about. If you bought your xk from a dealer go back to him with your issue. If not, you can put your top up by hand there are instructions in the owner's manual. If you don't have one, see the stickies at the top of the top page of this forum for a link to the owner's manual which you can download at no charge. Once the top is up you can then get at the battery. But, as described in an earlier post you can use the battery posts as described above. Good luck.

I failed to mention two things.
1. I spent several hours cleaning the car interior (with doors and trunk open, and possibly dome light on.
2. I snipped the power cord to an after market radar detector I did not plan to use (I thought this was the issue - thought I had fried the ECU).

Called AAA to help me get the car back into the garage. Tech suggested applying a jump to the battery. The car lite up like a christmas tree, started and I was able to back in to the garage.

I'm relieved to know the car starts and the ECU is not fried. Thanks to everyone who helped. I flew from Charlotte to Jacksonville FLA yesterday to buy the car and drove the car home. What a pleasure to drive. I didn't want the 5 hour trip to end. Thanks again.

Just a future point here. When you clean the interior or leave the doors open for any long period of time make sure you have a smart charger hooked up .

Nope, the 4.2 litre cars don't have the emergency park release. It is a 5 litre only feature.

It overrides the gearbox automatically selecting Park because if you turn the car off in Neutral it will select park automatically after 10 minutes.

You got a crash-course- even when all your senses tell you its not the battery- its the battery.
Its because so many other things happen when the battery dies the mind thinks on all those things, plus being an expensive car and a Jaguar, your first guess is always something catastrophic.

My '10 XKR just beeps because I did it the other day by mistake and it took me a few seconds to realise why.

From the owners manual:

Note: If the engine is switched off with N
selected, the system will wait for 10 minutes
before selecting P. This procedure is to allow
the vehicle to be conveyed through a car wash
only and should not be used for vehicle
recovery purposes.
