Default How to identify adaptive vs. non adaptive headlamps

Without inspecting the physical headlights on an XKR,... therefore either identifying some way them from the inside of the car (without actually driving it) or by wire harness inspection is there any clear indications or ways to determine if a car is set up for non adaptive or adaptive head lights? Or can they be used interchangeably?

Thanks,

Are you purchasing in car sight unseen? What year is the XkR?

The only way is really to drive it with switch on Autolamps or can to look at the sticker for options.

Don't they all have adaptive headlights? My '07 has them, but on the window sticker, it is not listed as an option (not equipped with the advanced technology package, no radar/laser cruise, etc.)

Default Define 'Adaptive Headlights' ?

I'm assuming you mean the headlights that swivel with the steering ? Called 'Active Front Lighting' in the US models.

All 2007+ XK/XKRs have HID lights, and have the 'self-levelling' function on initial heaqdlight turn-on. Also had 'auto-on' with dark or wipers feature, and cornering lights.

The 'Active Front Lighting' system was part of the 'Technology Package' which also included radar-cruise control and (some years, I think) front park sensors.

Jeremy here is closest to the proper answer.
ALL european cars with HID hedlights are required to have a self leveling system. As part of the start sequence of your car, they will go up and down to test the system.

Adaptive headlamps swivel left to right accoring to steering wheel input, and this was an option that came with the Technology package (and maybe indevidually?) The startup sequence is similar to the self leveling test, but you will also see them perform a "crosseyed" move.

I can only speak for 07 to 09 models... and even there not with great authority.
Technology package can be identified by the two thumb roller switches on the righthand side of the steering wheel. These are actualy part of the Adaptive cruse control which is part of that package. Front parking sensors were a seperate option, and not part of that package.

That should be a sure fire way on those model years to know if it has the technology package.

That's odd. Mine definitely has the active lighting (turns with the wheel) but I have no radar cruise or front parking...

Paranoid thought: maybe my car was in an accident at the headlamps were replaced with the adaptive headlamps?!

Could easily have been offered as a single line item option I guess....

According to this 2008 XK brochure:

http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/...%20XK_2008.pdf

All XKRs have adaptive front lighting. XKs have it as an option as part of the technology package? Does that make any sense? Why are all the bullets in the options on the brochure listed as "standard"?!

I have the 2009 XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible.

The car has Adaptive headlights, but I do not have the double buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, only one.

The Adaptive Cruise Control sometimes referred to radar-cruise control.

In the photo on the top, shows three wheels on the steering wheel. The right side has only one wheel.

The photo on the bottom shows 2 wheels on the right side of steering wheel which is the cruise control and adaptive cruise wheel.

My car does however have the park assist sensors. I have cruise control as pictured in top photo, no Adaptive Cruise however.

On the sticker for my 07 XKR Coupe, Adaptive Front Lighting is listed as a standard feature.
The Options column on the right lists Adaptive Cruise Control, along with the other options. (With such, I have the 2 buttons on both sides of my steering wheel).
I do not have the Technology Package.
