Default Huh? Whoowhat?!? DOH!!

Took 2012 Jag into dealership to get rubber seals around doors replaced due to bad wear under warranty.... You know the black rubber surround the door and window....

Now my engine light is on and the door side mirror won't dock on locking.

WHAT!!!!!?!?!

Good Grief....

Oh... And the AC don't work either....

The tech said the engine light might be on because the temp sensor is reading 44 below zero... Where is the outside temp sensor located on the car?!

Yikes! The dealership won't have a look at it?

It seems something went wrong from when they tinkered with it.

Maybe the tech who changed your seal unplugged something and forgot to put it back together?

I am thinking the same thing... And how does a outside temperature gauge sensor cause the engine light to come on? Could that affect the Air Conditioner? If you take the door apart how do you not check to make sure it's functioning correctly??!?!?!

What the F!#%

Do you mean the strip on the car or the actual door?

The rubber seals they replaced was the seals around the door... the rubber near the windows... Its not a functional thing its just rubber... That needed replaced because it cracked. now the following was wrong from the moment I picked the car up:

1- engine light on
2- outside temp sensor says its bloody -44 degrees outside
3- the AC just blows warm air
4- the driver side mirror does not fold in on locking....the passenger side closes maybe the 3rd-4th time.

This sounds to be more of an system wide problem...not a simple outside temp gauge!?!??!?

Loth

PS- Prior to taking over the rubber on each side had some tiny slits from wear...BUT

1- the engine light was NOT ON
2- the outside temp sensor recorded correct temp
3- the damn AC worked
4- the driver side mirror worked fine...

WHOOOWHAT!?!?!!!?!??!

Sounds like a coincidence to me. I don't think all of that has come from the job.

Cool down and give them a chance to make it right. It is a machine and machines can fail. It could be a screw up or it could be a coincidence, but they deserve a chance to address it.

At this stage Jaguar NA is only going to send you to back to the dealer.

Your right... of course they will have their chance! I have notified Mike @ Jaguar of the situation but did not make any calls anywhere. Its Saturday who the heck would answer anyway?

Again your right... not a Jag problem.. its a dealership problem. Car was functioning flawlessly prior to dropping it off. The dealership needs to fix it themselves and take steps to assure they check their work - or at least please check dummy lights before returning a customers car??

Could be because of low battery? They may have left the battery run down while keeping the door open when they replaced the door seal. May need to reboot the electronics with a battery disconnect and reset. I thought I'd throw this out first as a simple fix. I can't see all of this stuff just happening all at the same time. If you still have the car you may want to try this first after charging the battery before taking it back the dealer. Shame on the dealer for returning the car to you like this.

Maybe it is a low battery... maybe they disconnected the battery and did not do the sequence correctly?! That may explain the numerous number of weird problems....aka failures. The left sided mirror is not responding at all when locking the car and the right responds slowly every 3-4 try. The temp gauge being all wacko.... the check engine light..anyone ever seen that??? the AC not functioning but does turn on.

Ryan:

I would NOT worry too much. Try getting the battery up to full charge. Your Battery Tender or CTEK should do the job, and I am sure that once the charger goes green, then you know the battery is fully charged.

There are several posts on how to complete the battery/electronics reset. It appears easy, even though I never had to reset anything.

Most important is, the Jaguar is under warranty. Jaguar has the obligation to fix it, no matter what. Is this a pain in the ***? Sure it is. The Jaguar is your baby and you don't want anything to happen to it, but hey, anything can go wrong.

Keep up your spirits and if the battery isn't the problem, then contact the dealer who did the repair on Monday. Remember, be nice, and they will assist you I am sure.

Hang in there. You can and will get thru this BS.

Don't forget to disconnect ground from battery for 10 minutes before reconnecting it to start reprogramming. Charge battery before reconnecting. You can charge battery with ground connected or disconnected. Good luck.

I will demand on Monday he do this in front of me so that I learn the procedure first hand. This has to be it.... apparently there was no code either given on the check engine light!

as we stand:

1- check engine light no code
2- driver side mirror not docking, right does so 3rd or 4th attempt
3- outside temp sensor readings off
4- A/C not functioning properly - blows hot air

I just opened the trunk..waited a second and closed the trunk... the LEFT TURN SIGNAL clicked.... I opened the trunk and closed it again, the LEFT TURN SIGNAL went off AGAIN.

WOW!

That has to prove it... this is totally electrical and likely a battery check/replace with a reboot/reprogram is necessary.

Ryan:

Consider putting your cars on a CTEK 3300 or another brand of battery smartcharger. You will not be disappointed, and this will end electrical frustrations in the event of weak batteries. I have used one on my 2009 XKR for the last year without any electrical problems of any kind. I also use one for my 2014 Porsche and 2013 Hyundai. I have 3 CTEK's.

There is allot of links provided here for installation and thoughts about various brands. Amazon.com is a great source for the purchase and installation takes 15 minutes at best.

Amazon.com:
Robot Check Robot Check

Amazon.com:
Amazon.com: CTEK Comfort Indicator Extension: Automotive Amazon.com: CTEK Comfort Indicator Extension: Automotive

Installation guideline.....(for your models you will use the ground screw bolt in the wheel well for the negative. My 2009 is a bit different where I can simply use both the Neg and Pos terminals). https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...lation-107738/

This should make it easy for you IF you decide to possibly proceed this way.

I miss the days when a dead battery just meant that the car wouldn't start!!
