I don’t know how to feel or what to say… How bad is this?!
Last week I took my XKR in for a ediff service. Got the car back and did about 200 miles since then freeway.
today I was going to work and felt a shutter in the car when turning left slowly from stop. I thought oh no… that’s usually a diff issue - wait a minute…. Did they put the right oil in?!
ediff mind you… they put Castrol 750B.
That is NOT THE RIGHT OIL….. needs to be Castrol 720.
no ediff error but not sure I want to drive it maybe tow it back?
How am I ever to trust this diff again? Jesus what a screw up. Thoughts??

Part of my domestic maintenance routine is, every three months, to change the 3.2litres of Castro alphasyn EP220 in a 250:1 double epicyclic gearbox that runs continuously (we live in a watermill converted to hydroelectric production)
Each time, on the magnetic drain plug is a smear, say a match heads worth of grey metallic sludge. Here we are 5 years later and the brevini gearbox is fine.
I marvel at how much cumulative metal can be lost - presumably from hardened, point of contact surfaces to no ill effect. I would therefore say you’ll be completely fine and needn’t worry. If you want piece of mind save the oil and have it analysed by a lab for wear particles. You’ll need a comparison sample probably but I bet there will be only infinitesimal amounts given the small mileage done.

Talked to a UK 🇬🇧 specialist he said it’s the right grade of oil to look after the bearings so locking up wasn’t going to be the issue….however the issue is the 750B as compared to the 720 does not have the right friction modifiers for the E-Diff and there is a chance, a mean it’s in there… that it will contaminate the clutch plates and even with a flush will never “be the same”. So the clutch plates are not repairable per se and they owe me a new diff…..
I feel that they owe a new diff if and when the time comes in writing….✍️
Not sure if I should get a lawyer or not 🤦🏻♂️

If it’s not a difference between synthetic and non synthetic, I’d think a flush and refill would work. Harley’s have a wet clutch, and I once put synthetic in the primary, which is where the clutch is. Had all kinds of slipping and grabbing. It was never right until I went back to standard 100% Dino non synthetic oil.
I had my e diff replaced by the dealer under warranty. It tooks years before they would acknowledge that there was a problem. They would just say that it was leaves. I had an independent confirm it was bad and told the dealer but then they would say they don't accept diagnosing from third parties. Finally I asked for a different mechanic at the dealer and as soon as he heard it he said it was the e diff. Anyway it was the same problem as you described. I would pull out of my driveway then go forward while turning left and I would hear it. I had never changed the oil in the original but it was only a few years old. I haven't changed the oil in the replacement either. The e diff costs over $6k just for the part plus the install.
This subject was the very first post I made in the X150 section, twelve years ago.
I had the trans serviced with the CORRECT fluid and it's been perfect ever since.
I don't think it was the wrong fluid, just old. The car had 50k miles on a CPO.
