Default I just traded in a Corvette for my XK

I recently traded in my '06 Corvette for an '07 XK convertible . To be honest I was in the market for a Mercedes SL and purchased a SL55 AMG, however I returned it the next day. As I was leaving the lot I saw my new baby, bought her and never looked back. Thanks for everyone's input, I have been able to answer all of my questions so far without asking any questions.

Congratulations on your purchase! it's an amazing coincidence, as I sold my C6 Z51 to "free up" funds for my 08 XK coupe. additionally, I have had a SL500 for some time.

My conclusion, you have impeccable taste

Congratulations on your new XK!

What did you not like about the SL55? (just curious...for my own edification)

Interestingly enough, I just traded a 2004 Mercedes Benz SL600 with the Renntech upgrades on a 2011 XKR 1-175. Granted the SL600 was a lot faster, but the Jaguar in more comfortable and still very very fast. Acceleration isn't everything and with 510 HP, the XKR is plenty fast.

Forgot to mention I also have an XFR. I traded a BMW 750i in on that one. The BMW was fantastic, no question. However I like the sportier feeling of the Jaguar.
So, my garage went from decidely German to English. I'm very pleased.

Funny I also had a Corvette (albeit C5) and I currently have an SL65 and XKR. I do drive the SL65 more than the XKR (10k vs 8.5k miles and both bought the same time in '08) but again I don't have the 5.0 XKR. The torque is addictive on the SL.

It's amazing the number of people that cross shop the SL with the XK and end up at XK. I did the same thing prior to buying. Welcome!

I'm 6'3" and couldn't get comfortable at all in the AMG, that and it had a valve cover leak, which they agreed to fix, but after I saw the XK I knew what I wanted.

Default Never did understand...

I never do understand why so many people seem to favour German cars.

To me, Mercs and especially BMWs all look like the same sterile generic boxes with no style or individual character whatsoever. Like the owner doesn't have any individual taste at all, thinks expensive must mean good, and just followed the herd. It doesn't help that Mercs/BMWs are nearly always 'safe corporate' silver/grey or black.

I went for a drive in a top-end BMW the other day. The ride was awful compared to literally any other car I've been in. Even the Ford focus rental I had recently or my friends Hyundai rides much nicer. Its 0 to 60 time cost way too much everywhere else.

The only Porsche I'd consider would be a 911 (only because apparently its an excellent drivers car) but Porsche drivers seem to have a terrible reputation somewhere between all being A-holes or male menopausers. My car tech. says he finds for some reason Porsche drivers are always a pain in the ***.

It used to be that German cars were notable for their quality but German car quality has clearly significantly slipped in the last decade or so, meanwhile other brands have correspondingly improved in quality so even expensive German cars reliability can be surprisingly relatively bad now yet cost of repairs is still eyewatering.

So it seems the inflated purchase price you pay for German brands is apparently all for some misplaced perception around the badge alone, and is crazy for the actual car you get.

Still VERY happy with my XKR.

Just my 10c.
