Default Ignorance is bliss

While at physical therapy yesterday, I noticed a patient pulling into the parking lot, with an XKR Coupe (guessing it was a 2010-11 Vintage). I noticed the guy inside and mentioned to him that we had the same car and I'd love to schmooze with him about his experience. He came up to me, and I found out he purchased the 2011 XKR 175 new in 2011 and currently had 130,000 miles on it!! It's a daily driver and never sits more than a day without usage. Of course I asked the usual questions, 1) When did you replace the water pump? 2) Did you have any water in the passenger seat floor area? 3) Any issues starting the car in the morning due to a dead battery? Surprisingly.......His answer to those 3 questions were all NO! Had no knowledge of replacement of water pump, no duck bill issues, and the only time car didn't start was when he went on vacation and it sat for awhile in the garage. He only goes to Jaguar for regular oil changes, and the only issue he recalls is his headliner, that Jaguar replaced for him for $1600! Here are the forum, We might have lots to complain about, and coincidentally I find a civilian who drives his car to death with nothing more than a headliner replacement.... Maybe it's true...The less we know the better! Go figure!

Hey Boca, nice to see some peeps have trouble free motoring.

In American terms the car (as mentioned in rap songs of today) is a 'European' and as such I don't think the headliner adhesive is built for the Flo-rider temps..Similarly I don't think the English/Scottish hides used on the dash in particular are ready for USA high temps....all IMO of course.

I wasn't aware there were duckbill issues on the 5 0 models excepting the V early one's? Albeit the water pump is a problem...that I've yet to experience. The weirdest thing ( and someone can correct me if I'm wrong) but there's no way to check if you habe the lastest pump or an older version without removing it?

Regardless you gotta admire the engineering :

Some of us don't have issues...but of course we rarely hear from them, but it dios make me smile wryly when someone joins requesting assistance when theyve been in ownership fkr multiple yeara/miles. I joined before I even bought my x100....many moons ago (when I had hair!)

PS: You didn't mention that you enthusiastically gave him the utl for rhis forum....if not shame on you

Of course he had no interest in the forum. It would just keep him up at night with worry!

Some people are not true enthusiasts like us , ok they like to be seen in a nice car but do little else apart from getting it serviced once a year and run the car into the ground only themselfs to blame when it breaks then they come crying onto forums as Mark sugests and I agree with him , Maintinence is key for me at least any way

By the way......This guy did make it his business to tell me he has quite a few chips and nicks, so we already know he is not babying the car like many of the nuts on this forum (me being one of the biggest!). Sometimes I feel like a "caregiver" watching over my car in excess, so that one day....when my 35 year old daughter gets the car (while i'm turning to dust) she can tell anyone that comments on the XKs condition....Oh, my dad took great care of this car, that's why it looks so good.......and then shortly after (God forbid) she wraps it around a tree! lol

That said I could legally have a 39yr old daughter but mine is 16 and my son 17. So much nicer when your an older parent as youve so much patience...although now at least I can tell them to **** off if they rile me.

Me? More Patience??? Ha Ha.....Not even close! My only daughter knows she's getting everything, so she has been texting me a little more often these days as she's aware that I'm getting "up there" in years....I need to start parting with my possessions now or my daughter will litierally kill herself with such a great change in lifestyle. I'm not stupid wealthy, but for her it's drastic. She doesn't even own a car! lol
