Default Information Displays-engine temp, tire pressure et al

OK...I must be missing something...is there just absolutely no place to get real information on the engine temperature and other operating specifics. I have absolutely no idea what the temperature of the engine is...ever...how can this be? I'll take this one step further...what about tire pressure...can I not get the actual tire pressure and tire temperature anywhere?
With the information display there has got to be a way to get what I consider basic information on the operating specifics.
I find it hard to believe that Jaguar has deteriorated to down to the idiot warning light operator level....Anyone?

it wont show any of that info. just warnings when the temp goes outof range and tire pressure goes out of range

Hummm...I am just aghast that Jaguar (a british car company no less) has so completely withdrawn from the real car game. I know good and well all of this info is available thoughout the different computer sytems. It would probably be so easy to display it on that cool (compeltely useless) LCD screen instead of say the clock. It is real a shame that I have seen no other complaints and no one even seems to notice the lack of guages or pitch a blooming fit over it (let's get rid of the tach too...no need for that really with an automatic)...it appears that we as operators have become so completely detached from our autos that it just doesn't matter (I guess I'll go sit in one of my older jags...back when they had guages that told you something other than the car just burned up)...give me my pacifier I'm having my fit regardless...

I too was wondering where the engine temp reading was when I first bought the car as I want to make sure it's in normal operating temp before giving it alittle more gas. I called the Head Foreman of the dealer and he said it's there and he was going to find out and call me back. Well.....he called me back and said he couldn't find it. As for tire pressure, at least the Jag will tell you which tire is low in pressure. My $190K Mercedes (when it was new) will only tell you one of your tire pressure is low and you will need to find out which one.

I guess we are all destined to become simply the users of things only privy to what information others deem to be useful to us...I suppose this just mirrors society and the car companies are simply going along with the tide.
This fits with the speed limiters that some (Jag included) have so graciously included in their vehicles. You gotta give that one to the Americans....live free or die...you guys go (Corvette) without your socialist speed limiters...probably some of the best all around sports car value ever built (I haven't had one for many years but I bet they got temperature gauges as well).
OK...I will limp back to my hole and nurse my rebelious wounds...I will try and accept that we are all destined (forced) to be simply users...smart free thinking operators need not apply..."sigh"...where's that pacifier...

As an aside Ghostrider....I have noticed that the Europeans tend to shove things down the consumers (Americans specifically) throats when they don't approve of the mandates that our feds impose on them (Being a fun loving free thinking american I can appreciate this sort of response).
Mercedes seems especially prone to a rebellious steak as shown by the piece of crap third SL series brake light (stuck on top of the trunk as an eyesore forever) back when the fed third brake light mandate appeared. Maybe this explains why they have taken what could be a great informational/driving/safety item (fed mandated tire pressure reporting) and completely neutuered it to be almost unusable (Mercedes is staging a sit in :-)
I guess we all tend to push back when pushed...it is a shame tho as you point out that we are forced to consume this high priced crap tho...
Does your Mercedes have a temperature gauge?

Corvettes are great bang for the buck. My C5 had Stage II Heads and Cam, LS6 Intake, LS1 Edit, Pro Torque 3500 Converter, 3.42 gears, LG Long Tube Headers, ASP Pulley, Corsa Daytona Exhaust and more. I even bought a Pro Charger P1SC Supercharger for it but never installed as I was concerned the bottom end won't handle it if I didn't beef it up. I've had no problems with it before opening up the engine although it was a low mile car when I sold it. The C5 was even able to read Error Codes when my Check Engine light came on without purchasing or borrowing a OBDII Reader. I could have bought another Corvette and might down the road (ZR1 looks tempting) but I have no regrets purchasing the XKR and SL65 AMG. Here's my C5 under surgery and afterwards.

Default Measure for measure

I take it you mean oil temperature when you write "engine temperature" - I would be surprised too if this was not available. And on that note is oil pressure available as a display?

On tire temperature I can't think of one single road car, or track car for that matter, that has a system for measuring tire temperature automatically. You need a tire temp sensor to hand measure across the width of the tire to ensure you have correct pressures for track work, but if you're only doing road driving it's really not important.

Engine temperature=Coolant temperature. Oil temp would be nice too but if I had my choice it would be more importantly oil pressure...that one is the one that really tells you UH OH...
As far as tire temperature you are probably right...just not that important at least in a car tire...maybe more so in a truck tire...although I might be able to make the case that if you are running at high speed and the tire temperature starts to increase rapidly it may very well warn you to impending failure.
I would add that as far as I know at least some of these new tire pressure sensors have the built in capability to measure temperature. I put an aftermarket Hella system in my daughters BMW and it tells you everything including temp (even has set temps for warnings) and even does the spare tire (I unlike the manufacturers believe knowledge is power...or should I say a few less new shredded tires from her driving on them flat to get out of dangerous traffic...as well as a call after midnight with me changing the tire on the side of a busy interstate in total darkness)...I would bet that those sensors that doo all of that are probably the same for a bunch of OEM installations.

I wonder if the no Engine Temp in the XK(R)s was a cost cutting effort by Ford.

I might have seen you around Ghostrider :-)
One night I was out in the Porsche minding my own business tooling along on the interstate (I might add incorrectly in the fast lane) when I noticed a car behind me...I saw him slowly move over to the slow lane beside me, I heard that wonderful American V8 NASCAR type raging rumble as he downshifted and he was just gone...I have never seen anything like it...really unbelievable acceleration in a car...I didn't even have time to wave goodbye to this guy...the only reason I knew it was a vette as all I ever got a chance to look at was his round taillights rapidly leaving me behind...

I can't hardly believe that when just about every Ford I have seen seems to have an engine temp...I have to believe it is purely Jaguar and either a major, major fopah...or maybe just their elitist attitude toward their buyers (i.e. we are just a bunch of simpleton, car using hacks...which maybe we are :-)
Let's face it a simple 1 dollar gauge would have done the trick...maybe a 20 dollar digital gauge programmed in the LCD screen (I mean come on...they have a useless digital/analog clock programmed in the center LCD...but no engine temp?)...whew...I am getting worked up again...I just can't seem to get there from here...
It would sure be nice to have a Jaguar representative here to explain this (anybody out there...does anybody care?)...it just seems so straightforward...
I'll go one more on all of this....I would guess the OBDII port reports all of this information (temps, pressures, tach etc) and it would not be much of a step at all to convert this into a display format for the LCD center screen...I mean come on, we can get an OBDII scanner that does this for 30 or 40 bucks...I got my shopping list: 1. OBDII Scanner 2. Duct Tape
Plug scanner in...Duct tape scanner to steering wheel....Wah Lah...my 110,049.95 Jaguar XKR with gauge package (Duct tape available in special order colors for extra)
