Default iPhone sound stopped working on 2010 XK

I have a 2010 XK that I recently left with the dealer while out of the country for three weeks. When I picked it up I found that I could not hear the phone dialing or the person on the other end when answered. All phone contact info downloaded as it does normally and it cuts out the radio when I dial as normal - just no sound. I deleted the phone and re-added since I'm sure they disconnected the battery while servicing. Same result. The service rep told me it was likely due to new iPhone updates no longer allowing the car to properly communicate with the phone and that I might need to purchase a new bluetooth module. That seems odd since the phone is obviously communicating with the car - minus sound. I've done a search on the forum but have not come up with a thread on this as I've described it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The sequence of events:

1. iPhone works
2. leave vehicle with dealer for 3 weeks
3. return and collect vehicle
4. same iPhone doesn't work

It would be the most remarkable co-incidence of lottery winning proportions if an interim iPhone software update was the cause. If the service rep seriously believes that explanation, he/she will immediately be able to:

1. validate it with examples of other customers experiencing the same issue
2. provide the P/N of the this 'new' BT module required

It's more likely something has been done which has affected the BT Module whilst the vehicle was with the dealer.

I have an iPhone SE and a Samsung Galaxy J5 paired with my XK so it's easy for me to compare Android with iOS smartphones. Do you have an alternative smartphone you can try?

I thought I'd read that call volume can be set/adjusted independently of the audio system setting by adjusting the audio system volume control during a call. However, I can't find this in my 2015MY Owner's handbook. It could have been my previous 2007 XK.

Unfortunately I do not have access to an Android for separate testing. I’m thinking something may have unintentionally been done to the BT module (as you suggest) during the servicing. Unless any other suggestions are posted with contrary thoughts, I’m likely to contact them and readdress it with the dealer/service department.

FYI, This is clearly stated in my 2010 Owners Handbook.

Cheers,

Thanks so much. I somehow missed it in the manual. Just left town so will try it mid-week when I return. Much appreciated.

I have an 07 and I had to shut off Siri to get it going again.

Turns out this was an easy fix as suggested by 10XKR and u102768. When the battery was disconnected it must have reset the phone volume to zero. It was not necessary for me to turn off/on Siri (Brewtch) but I would have tried it if the first suggestion had not worked. Thanks everyone.

Default fix iPhone stopped working

When it comes to iPhone sound stopped working, it could result from various situations such as wrong settings, ios bugs and errors, etc. To fix it, you could check its basic settings. And if everything is set right, then you could resolve this problem by repairing your iPhone's ios system with an iPhone recovery tool. Or you could directly send it to the Apple store for reparation if you don't mind the money spent.
