Are you sure you are comparing apples? You say you really would like a near perfect, low mileage 5.0 XKR but at a bargain price. Are the other cars you mention also similarly good examples or high-mileage items that will naturally be cheaper?

Comparing BMW 3-Series, Merc C-Class, etc. with what was Jaguar's flagship means you will be trading a fairly rare coupe or convertible for something really mass-produced with a big engine. Remember, the XK was a 6-series competitor, not a 3-Series one. It depends what you want. Just pure pace or something a little different.

In Germany, an XK/XKR is a little better value used that a similar SL. They are known to be good cars and good examples are rarely given away.

Merc, Lexus, BMW..... Agree, all nice cars, but just too cookie cutter common IMO. Where I'm at I see 10-20 of each of those per day. Maybe more. I see 1 or 2 Jags per day and I see an XK about 3 or 4 times a month. As said above, drive what you will enjoy most. I like being in the XK.

Hellz, I've seen an XK a TOTAL of four times. Ever. The last time was three weeks ago while in Puerto Rico. No, at the Jag dealership doesn't count.

Yeah! Slug-Bug/Punch-Buggy rules apply here, but with Jag vs VW dealers!

You dont understand what "bang for buck" means- that's a good thing.

Think of it as a coin, stock or anything else, the only way to get something worth more than its being sold for is if the masses do not know of its value. As your post proves.

Or if its easier to grasp, the more known a value is, the harder it becomes to get a good deal. No one is going to sell you a $100 bill for $50, no bookie will give you 10 to 1 odds on a dead cert (known value) of a horse.

Thus the fundamental rule on getting bang for buck on anything is in a 'sleeper'. But here is the rub- no one can help you find a sleeper, its the exclusive prerogative of those who know how to look.

Guys...replying to all of you...there’s a reason I’m looking at an XKR over anything else...I like them. I like the rarity I love the looks I love the idea of a jaguar coupes. By bang for buck I mean what the car has to offer...reliability, performance, and so on, yes bmws and Mercedes are a dime a dozen but Because they are more common it means they are easier to maintain with local shops, less people will screw it up when they touch it. Anyone and everyone who touched my S-Type R specialist or not messed it up in some way or another. I will be much more careful with the xkr as to where I take it.

Once again, I don’t want arguments, and asking for kbb value isn’t really ridiculous if you look at the market for I have seen several at great value. I also understand that grabbing the cheapest one isn’t always best. This isn’t my first time buying s car. So like I said before guys...this isn’t to start debate, just to ask if anyone has one available or has seen one.

I could keep arguing why I would look at other options for the more money but I do understand jags as they have been in the family for a long time. I want one over anything else but if the right deal doesn’t pop up I don’t see it working. I set the standards a little ambitious i understand but I am flexible and I guess I didn’t make that clear enough, higher miles for a bit more money depending on records and so on does not deter me.

Its not an argument, I gave you the most powerful tool you need in hunting for the best vehicle for you.

If your statement above was true, it would mean that it would be much harder to find a deal on them- thats just undeniable logic.

So the trick is to find a car that is easy to work on, or reliable, or better than it should be, and no one knows about it....again as your post proves.
You do not realize how much cheaper a new Jaguar is to work on compared to comparable BMW or Merc.

considering ive worked on my friends’ AMGs, Audi s4s, and BMWs M3s, I completely agree with the ease to work on a jag, it’s much much nicer and neater.

With a Jaguar you may pay for the rareness of a part- that's just free market economics.
On a merc, audi, bmw, you will pay for arrogance, even when its a piece of rubber.

Also the design on these cars (which they have been successfully sued for) makes the work more frequent and complex.
Worse for you is that the years you are interested in, was their worst. Carbon on Audi, BMW was a world record.

Also Jaguar did do something about the volume- its used the 5.0 engine across the board and the V6, is the same engine with 2 cylinders less.

Look at it this way, and not a lot of folks realize this, JLR uses the same 5.0 engine today!! it means you can buy a 10 year old car with an engine still in production- wow!

Also you guys did realize I said 4.2 or 5.0, and it seems like 4.2 is more within my budget which I’m okay with. It seems like all of you want to just pick at what I say as wrong and I shouldn’t buy a jaguar because I listed some other valid options for cars. I think sticking under $20k is attractive for me and a 4.2 would be fine. Under 40k miles would be ideal if anyone knows anything. Ideally not black but I wouldn’t be too picky about it.

Everyone has a budget, and nothing wrong with that. Any year X150 would be a great choice of a superb automobile.

thank you, the end goal is an enjoyable daily and I’m hoping a perfect 2008-2009 example falls into my lap. If a steal for a 5.0 comes my way I will not be opposed to that either though.

Here we go again... OP, youre hard to please. The XKR is not for you. You’re a nitpicker, and perhaps everyone can be, but theres nothing funnier than seeing a nitpicker with little money, kicking tires. remember one thing, Perfection loves to get in the way of greatness. Happy shopping!

why are some of you just not helpful and insulting, if you do not have anything good to say keep it to yourself. I know I said a 5.0 under $20k and I see that being slightly unrealistic even though I have seen 5.0 cars for $25k with low mileage. I also have seen 4.2 cars under $20k.

the point of the forums is to help people out, not just reply with some unhelpful comments just to get your snarky remarks across...keep them to yourself, the original point of this was to see if anyone had one for sale and it’s turned into a big debate, I set my standards high and prices low for a reason, doesn’t mean I’ll get what I want but I’d like it close which is realistic. Anyone else with some pointless comments I’m not replying. I do actually know what I’m trying to do and I don’t need your comments. Thanks to all of you unhelpful people, much appreciated.

Ew I don’t want an antenna sticking out of it. It appears the 2008 and 2009 cars have gotten rid of this. And yes it appears that Kelley blue book seems to be inaccurate to describe the current market, they’re all for 22+k, which is stupid considering the gentleman with the 5.0 got his for 26.5k with a warranty. Why would I pay so much for a 4.2 when I can just get a 5.0 for the same money? I’m hoping I find a great deal otherwise it really isn’t worth it.

So you find your perfect car , right money , low miles , full service history , ect ect...LMAO then you find out It has the electric antenna <<< a deal breaker OMG . Personally mate I don't think you know what you want....

You may have misunderstood the spirit of Brewtech's comment, which was being brutally helpful in the long run.
Which in essence was; if you keep your expectations where they are you are guaranteed disappointed ultimately, in more ways than one.
By the virtue of logic alone. If a perfect car was being sold for so little, it implies the future does not look good for it.
Then there is an interesting dynamic that works against you; in waiting till your 80's to find the perfect bride 2 things are happening with the passing of time, neither you nor the car is improving, meaning the odds get worse.
Most importantly, an absolute requirement of good Jaguar purchase: you have to willing to go out of your comfort zone, that is how all these XKRs were sold in the first and second place.

Ranchero once said 'quit waiting for your ideal, it will never happen'
Brewtech said something that struck me as incredibly astute advice from a drunk, perfection gets in the way of greatness.

I went back to your original post in this thread and you've reiterated it at least once. You're asking if anyone has one for sale. Consider posting a WTB in the marketplace. That's where you might be better served IMO. Good luck with the search. Patience is your friend. One will come along soon enough.

The ad for the grey one in Texas misrepresents it as an XKR. It's an XK.

Call this dealer and offer them $20K for this car. Tell them it's very high mileage, and the colours are all wrong for this type of car.
