Default Issues with new Navigation DVD

Bought the latest Navigation DVD 2011-2012 because the one in the car was from 2005. The old navigation worked reasonably well. Popped the the DVD (east coast) in the player and then didn't realize the Nav scree had given me a choice of updating the software so for about 20 minutes the Nav screen just said reviewing the DVD. Ejected the DVD and started again. This time I saw the message about updating my software and accepted it. Message said it would take 15 minutes but Nav was up and running in about 11 minutes. However, now ONLY major roads show up on the NAV screen. Side roads, including the road I live on show the name of the road, but no road. As if I'm driving in a field. Navigation knows there are roads there because if you plan a route out of my neighborhood it highlights where the roads should be. Dealer says drive around for a few days but I think that's just dealer BS. I don't think the software update worked correctly and it was a bad DVD. Any ideas?

Are you sure it was the correct update disc for your NAV? Have you tried putting your old disc back in? IIRC, I don't think the 2007+ cars had a 2005 disc. What year is your car?

It was my understanding that there was no update for the 05/06 nav system. The updates available may be for a newer system than the one installed in your 05.

Default Navigation System

I have a 2006 XKR with navigation. My car has an integrated Alpine system. The disk that came with the car was created in 2005 by NAVTEK. I have checked with NAVTEK and Jaguar and have been told there is no upgrade available because in 2007 Jaguar completely changed systems. However there is an article within this forum that describes how to integrate an new nav system into your car. It's kind of techy and costs about $700.00. I choose to just buy a stand alone Garmin and just mount it over the old screen and it can be upgraded anytime off the internet. I wish you luck!

For my 2010 XK I just ordered the 2013-2014 version direct from Navteq (HERE navigation - Update your sat nav with the latest HERE maps.). I called them and they said the 2013-2014 version came out in December 2013. I ordered today so I don't have it yet. The version I have now is the one that came new with the car. On their web site, they don't list any older than 2007 for the XK.

Welcome to the forum fxalbert,

Your profile shows a you have a 2007 XK. Are you using an OE Jaguar supplied 2011-12 DVD or one from another source?

My 2007 XK had a 2006 DVD installed which would have been the latest NAVTEQ available when the vehicle was purchased. I'm surprised your vehicle of the same Model Year would have a 2005 East Coast DVD installed at point of sale.

I updated mine last year with the latest European DVD (a four DVD set) from Jaguar and had the same update message you saw. The system updated with no issues. The only time it goes into reset is on inserting a different disc for other countries in Europe. It takes a few minutes to refesh vehicle location computed from satellites. The maps are on the DVD's and are read instantly.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see.

In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

An update to my original post. The car is a 2007 Jaguar XK. I bought it used and the DVD that was in the car actually has two dates on it. It has a 2006 DENSO Corp date and a copywrite date 2005 NAVTEQ. It is an east coast DVD with no west coast DVD in the car, as purchased. Looking at the dates on the DVD I decided to purchase the newest version. Bought the 2013-2014 DVD set and installed the east coast DVD in the player. Original post describes what happened. Here's the really interesting part. If I remove the east coast DVD and insert the west coast DVD there is no change. The same major east coast highways are displayed. If I remove the 2013-2014 DVDs and insert my original 2005/2006? DVD there is no change. Prior to the software update the old DVD had all the side and neighborhood roads but I guess due to the software change it won't display them now. Except for being dated there was nothing wrong with the older DVD or the nav system so I think the software update didn't go as planned. I'm going to contact the dealer and see if he'll give me a new set and I'll send him back this set.

I have not seen that happen before. Sounds like a glitch somewhere. I would just have one suggestion of doing a hard reset. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery for about a minute. Reconnect it. Start the engine and don't touch the accelerator for 30 seconds. Reset the windows. Set the clock. Test the Nav. I don't see any bulletins on the Nav system concerning updates so it should be a fairly smooth update.

Final update on the navigation issue.

I did receive new DVD's for the navigation from the dealer. I installed them with the hope that might resolve the problem. It did not. I tried the reset information provided by LMK and that didn't resolve the problem either so I reluctantly made an appointment with the local Jaguar dealer. Later that same day I took the car out for a drive around the neighborhood as a last ditch effort to see if doing that would allow the side streets to appear. I had very little hope for this to work but it did. Suddenly all of the side streets appeared with the names of the streets. At this point I don't know if the new DVD's were the cure or the reset but quite frankly I don't care. It's now working the way it is supposed to work and I'm going to leave well enough alone. Thanks for all the help.

I'll install it this weekend and let you know. Got it earlier this week and just haven't had time to do it yet.

Default 2013-2014 Nav DVD

The 2013-2014 Nav DVD does contain a software update (see pic). It took about 15 min. to install and showed the leaper on screen three times while I was watching. The Navigation option is grayed out during the install, otherwise, all other functions on the display unit work while the update is processing. I had the 2008-2009 DVD previously (came with my 2010 XK when I got it a month ago), so I expect there are a number of map and POI updates over the last 5 years as well.

There are two disks with the DVD set, one for West and Canada and the other for East and Canada. The shipping label shows this is for the XF as well. I created a cheat sheet to show which states are offered on each disk. I paid $222 including tax and shipping from the Navteq site. Since I live in California and don't anticipate a cross-country trip in this car, if someone wants my East disk for half that, shipped, shoot me a PM. I won't rip copies so please don't ask.
