So when I bought my car there was an older Maserati Gransport and some other highline cars like that on the lot. Many of these "uber" cars have very poor residuals and can be had inexpensively with a little age. I've been looking at the XKR since 2010 but timing wasn't right and I wanted to wait till they fell into a certain price range that was "responsible." I was out with some buddies for a 'let's look at motorcycles, cars and cigars' day when we stumbled on the lot. Not I have an NASA license and have instructed SCCA so although I'm no stig I can drive. Even I can't use all of the power in this car so more is simply for bench racing. As I started to mention to my friends the racing heritage that Jag has [although forgotten about by many] the smart phones came out to compare specs. One paper; even at full retail the XKR is a better value than anything I could find short of an enzo, mclaren or adventar which i would love for a weekend but I like the style of the jag. On paper they are faster and although its a personal preference item I like the more conservative interior and backseat[although pretty worthless] and finally the ride is very confident but not obnoxiously harsh.

Take it to the track and find out just how good it really is. And welcome to the forum!

Bruce, I think you misspoke but I corrected you.

My beat up, purpose built 200bhp Miata is still the most fun I've had on a track

I've tracked the XKR a few times now and it was a very natural transition from a track-modified Supra TT, which also has very neutral handling and a lot of power, but heavier than the Miata. You'll obviously notice the additional weight, but I can't fault any other part of the car or its handling on the track. My idea of a very lightly track prepped XKR would be wider front wheels and tires to take the punishment, and a little extra camber if available. Great car...you're going to love it!
