Jaguar winning the trophy for highest depreciation!

Despite being a Jaguar lover, to me the XK8 was undesirably and confusingly antiquated and obsolete, with its flat wooden dash, simple unremarkable seats and then there was the rear bumper which bisected the visual flow at cross-purposes. All while being unreliable and nothing spectacular about the power. It screamed underfunded has-been British manufacturing.
Also the youth had not discovered Jaguar- it was still decidedly a single-malt crowd car. The Ftype is being discovered by the masses as its prices become earthly and then they discover the most coveted engine in the Ftype already exists in our car.
500hp always has a following, once word spreads its reliable.

New to the XK's, why a major difference between 09 and 10? I don't see a lot of 09's for sale. Is it because it was the first year after selling from Ford?

Some interior appointments changed as well; 2010 have a lore more "shiny".
Taillight's changed to LED's.
I prefer the 2007-2009 interior myself.

Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover in 2007, yet there are quite a few people who still think Ford is the owner. I've even had someone say the S-Type is a rebadged Ford Taurus.
Deciding between a 2007 through 2009, or 2010 through 2015 comes down to personal preference. I personally prefer the original exterior design rather than the 'facelift' version, but I'm sure there are many who would disagree.
Depreciation is a fact of life for nearly all vehicles, so buy what you like and drive it to enjoy it. Maybe in fifty or sixty years the X150 will be revered as the E-Type is now.

From 4.2 liter to 5.0 liter, 90+ HP bump
-26 trans to-28 with faster shifting
Floor shifter to rotary
More 'bling' on the interior, to a point, like chromed switch surrounds instead of solid black plastic
Front fog lights/grills to swoopy scoop things.
Two rear fogs and two reverse lights instead of one on 07-09
I'm sure there are more, but I can't remember offhand.
The 2012+ also has sleeker headlight styling
Backup camera
More also, but again I can't recall.
I also prefer the front of the 2012+.

And yea the 2010-2011 bottom grill "frowns" and the 2012+ bottom grill "smiles"
The 2012+ also has the side louvers horizontal.

Not that I've had many models, but I have found the deprecation on many luxuries to be similar. For instance my last vehicle purchase was a roughly 6 yr old MB CLK 500 convertible I purchased for approximately 1/3 of original cost. Drove it for 6 1/2 years and sold it for about 30% of my purchase cost which comes out to roughly 10% of original.
Now I just purchased my approximately 6 year old XK convertible at roughly 33% of original, so I see myself on about the same path.

Will never be zero, but I can see (if we live that long) all XK150s settling around the very high teens to low 20s for exceptional examples. Can't get any semi exotic in that price range but bottom line most of us on this forum would be taking a huge loss or close to it... at least myself. My loss was not driving the car for the years I've had it and kept in the garage, which did nothing for the depreciation. Still don't get why Jaguars depreciate so fast across the line of all models. Guess what? The F Type is next... Going the same direction and I believe there were more built than our XK150s. Oh Well.

... from the old philosopher...
One man's depreciation is another man's opportunity.
You can't always get what you want, unless you get a little help from your friends - patience and depreciation.
The road of life is short, so enjoy the ride!
This photo was directly in front of the treadmill in the cardiac lab when I had a nuclear stress test at my local hospital. It spoke to me and said: "You have reached the end of the road." That was over 4 years ago. Still here and enjoying the ride in my Jags!

I don't think depreciation will bottom out for another couple years. Figure low of 15% at 10 years and 15 years being the break over point where they'll start to appreciate. Depending on what the used car market does as long as these cars give an exceptional bang for the buck there will be a desire for them. Fox mustangs held value for a long time because the newer models weren't as easy to get power out of. Once the current higher powered cars came out the Fox market crashed.
These were low production high emotional value cars so there will always be a market for this style / exclusivity. Unlike MB or BMW which have flooded their markets the cost of ownership isn't terrible for the Jags.
