I went and sat in one several weeks ago, and the saleman, the manager, the janitor, and everyone else at the dealership begged us to take it out for a test drive. In some respects it was somewhat better in person than pictures, but the interior which looked great in pictures was not an inviting place, especially in darker colors. But that Lexus front end is unfortunately so ugly that you just can't get past it. On the good side, the paint quality seemed exceptional.

I know I’m in the minority here but, there is no question that this LC is a fabulous automobile. Looks are subjective, of course. What isn’t subjective is the fit/finish/reliability of this marque. These are flawless!
What I wouldn’t give for a XK that wouldn’t require the use a tickle charger or monthly conditioning of the dash or the nagging feeling of impending doom (mechanical problems) that only the purchase of an extended warranty can relieve.
When my current extended warranty expires, I will undoubtedly sell my XK and possibly opt for one of these Japanese crafted beauties, sans the extended warranty.

I think the 4.2 X150 is *the* most reliable 2+2 you can get. The suspension bushings may be soft and need replacement more often, but I don't consider that unreliable.
I decided to buy a X150 over getting a new car in warranty.
I think the outside looks great of the LC, the interior is very similar to the new generation Corvette; it is something I would have to experience to yay/nay. The sound and exterior however really do it for me.

Also, we must keep perspective of time.
Jaguar gave us the XK 10 years before Lexus had a something close.
10years is a lifetime, you go from youth to middle-age in ten years, and middle-age to old in another 10. A decade is the difference between when we were shopping in stores and Amazon prime.

You're right about the fit/finish but, as the former owner of a brand new 2007 LS460 with almost every option, I disagree with your conclusion about reliability. You've been conned by their propaganda. The service loaner cars were more reliable. My 2007 was recalled for defective aluminum fuel rails and 32 defective engine valves, and there were TSBs on wind noise, dashboard rattles, and the main wiring harness just to name a few of the defects. As in the old Packard ads, "Ask the man who owns one. " I learned my lesson. Fool me once. Never again. And all this happened with less than 40K miles. The relentlessly pursuit of my patience. On the positive side, I got to drive almost every model of Lexus loaner cars.
I currently have a 2006 LS 430 (bought new), and besides oil changes/tires, I've not had one mechanical repair to date. My CT200h was similarly trouble-free.
Curious, are they still making the LS in Japan?

That alcantara insert on the door, how ugly is that material going to look after four years?
I've seen alcantara X150 steering wheels. Ack!
Aside from that, the more I see, the more I think its a great car. Perhaps a decent successor to the XK in the absence of one from Jaguar. However, its not going to have the thump of the lighter higher horse power XKR.

In retrospect, I'm glad that happened because otherwise I'd probably still have that LS460, which was as boring to drive as it was beautiful. That changed when I traded it for my 2013 XJ 5.0L SC, which is so much more powerful and fun to drive and, with the exception of the water pump that was replaced under warranty, has been very reliable. The supercharged 5.0L XJ is in a different league altogether.

I believe we are going through a fad of arbitrary bold lines.
It wont stand the test of time due to key word arbitrary.
Its like the art deco fins and other needless exaggerations- they lasted a short time because they put a date stamp on themselves.
Already we are seeing cars penned this year reverting back to sensibilities of form following function- which is ultimately the only thing that survives.

ALL regulations are dulling ALL designer's pens.
All in all, I like this car. When the SC first came out, I liked it too. I don't think I'd ever own either one but they did do a nice job on this. Yes, I'm in the "I hate the grill" club but the rest of it is pretty cool IMO. Interested to see the price point and reliability reports of these when they come off lease in 2-3 years...
