Hi everyone, I notice that the rear of the XK has a slight lean to the driver side. I measured from ground to mid wheelwell arch on both sides and the difference is a bit under 1/2inch. Im guessing it a bad driver side rear shock. Anyone come across this? Anyone try out aftermarket rear shocks? Thanks….

 

Hey Fstbmw1 - don't rule out a bad spring. Shocks typically don't cause a drop in height but a bad shock will compress a spring over time, so you could have both.

Also, if you had any work done on the rear bushes or control arms, they could affect ride height if they weren't torqued properly (on the ground vs on a lift.)

The ol' bachelors lean. I have seen that in a few cars besides the Jag. Probably a spring lost some its sprung. I would just live with it.

 

I have HnR lowering springs on my car. Installed them abt a year ago, not much time on them so I would not think that it would be a spring issue. My T-Bird has had HnR lowering springs on it for at least 8 yrs and no sagging. No issues with control arm or bushings but will take a peek over next couple of weeks.

 

Was it level after installing the springs (i.e. the sag appeared sometime in the year after doing that install)?

 

In all honesty, I cant quite recall but I would say yes. I think I'll reinstall the stock rear springs again and see what it looks like

 

Can't you also swap sides? Are the left and right not interchangeable?

 

One year should not be causing new springs to sag, unless they were mismatched, or defective metal quality.

There also may be a small adjustment. I've not lifted the XK to have a look at the suspension yet, so I couldn't help you there.

Sometimes, because minimum bumper height requirements can change from country to country, its easier to add an adjustable element to the ride height in order to comply.

Measure the thickness of the material the springs are made out of. If you take them out, measure their length uncompressed.

 

Yes, left and right are indeed interchangeable, but, after putting the Jag on my lift and checking all the different suspension components I found nothing requiring repair or of any concern. As such I did not take the rear springs out. Everything nice and tight and all 4 springs seated properly. I then drove my car to a friends garage which has a 100% perfect and level surface (he used to do frame straightening and has level 6" steel I-beams you can drive on), I remeasured my car and it is exactly 1/4" out. I can live with that. If it bothers me it won't be that big of a deal to install a small shim on the low side. Thanks for your responses.
