Default Leaper (for the rear)

I've seen several threads regarding the Leaper. This was one of the Wish-To-Haves my wife wanted on our Jaguar. Alas, we have a '08 XKR which not only does not have one, but one would ruin the lines. However, I just saw someone else's post with a "leaper" on the rear (see picture). Does anyone know where I can find one of these? Is it bolted on? Would you advise to NOT do it (drilling holes in the body seems like a bad idea...)...? BTW, ours is a convertible if that matters...

You can get this look by replacing the small spoiler with the larger Speed Pack spoiler. The newer ones have the leaper integrated.
Also, you can get just a leaper that sticks on wherever you wish, just search Jaguar Leaper Emblem and you will find many.
I highly recommend the larger spoiler. Once I traded my small one for larger, the smaller ones look goofy to me.

There are a few different sizes. I put one on my 2010. Bought it on eBay. It came with 3M 2 sided tape as CanadaCat mentioned. Just find the right size and when you stick it on, get the angle right because you can't get it off easily once stuck on. I used another XK as a reference and taped up an outline.

Don't think there is a 'right' size since the XKR doesn't technically have one. However, the link that was posted (Amazon) has one listed with the actual measurements (I think they said 19cm?)

6 5/16", or 16cm. That one above is the right size.

Also, they are on the XKs, just not on the 2010 and 2011s.

That linked one includes the "Jaguar" lettering and not just the leaper, and the lettering is the new font so wrong for a early XK.
Also beware that many (most or even all?) of these after-market leaper badges are solid metal and flat so if the surface of your boot/trunk is curved even a little where the leaper goes then one or both of the ends will not sit flat.
I know because I bought a full size black one from AliExpress for my F-Type a few years ago and it was no good, the ends stuck up in the air and I simply could not bend the badge at all for fear of destroying it.
You can get OEM ones that are gently curved but they are pricey and often include the lettering and as I said be careful of getting the "wrong" font lettering.
I have stuck many badges on including the leaper on the rear of my F-Type (the original but painted black and de-pronged) using black silicone RTV sealant, works great and sticks like s**t to a blanket, not one of those badges has ever budged a micron.

There was a leaper on mine when I bought it, which I did not think it was needed. I removed it. The plinth lettering of Jaguar is all the notification that's needed, IMHO. It was on with double sided tape.

Bought mine on Ebay (OEM) but you can still order from a dealer. I think I paid about sixty bucks. As noted above, the standard one you're used to seeing is about 7" long. And yes, the OEM leaper uses a double-stick surface. I thought that was a little DIY, but it was going strong as long as I had the car. I loved the look, seemed right for an XK. Apparently Jaguar thought so too, as the put it back on after only 2 years of having it not there.

Understated elegance. I agree.

I looked for a leaper on ebay and at various parts dealers and discovered there are several versions for different models of Jaguar car. For example XF's have a different shape leaper from the XK/XKR as can be seen on genuine jaguar parts websites. The ebay ones are cheap but not correct outline. I wanted the correct XK/XKR version and bought a genuine XKR leaper from Adamesh UK. Part number attached. Cheers Mark

Hii Carl, I believe the rear leaper appeared on 2012 to 2014 versions of the XK/XKR. Although.my car is a 2008 version I wished to have the genuine shaped XK/XKR leaper on the rear. To me it does not detract but each has their own opinion It is made of metal, is flat on the back and is supplied with an alcohol wipe and self adhesive pad for attaching to the trunk. No drilling needed. Cheers Mark

Mark,
You note that the leaper was flat. Others have noted a slight curve is helpful so the ends don't 'pop up'. Did that matter to you? Where did you get it? A reference above listed the part and I looked it up: ~$110 USD. Was that what you paid?

Carl
