Looking at 07 XKR Convertible - Advice?
Newbie here. I'm looking at a 2007 XKR convertible with 28K miles - asking price $27K. Has lux pkg, Alpine and adaptive cruise. Black with black. Seller is second owner, he bought it in Naples FL with 9K miles on it. Any advice on what to check for when I look at it? Thanks.
Low mileage and rare to have adaptive cruise. Common Jaguar X150 problems include:
1. Dash cover - check for shrinkage and bubbles.
2. AC condensate drain tube (the "duckbill") gets clogged and causes water to back up and spill into the passenger footwell.
3. Suspension bushings. Although low mileage, time causes bushings to crack.
4. Service records. By the book?
All other things you would usually do when considering a used car apply to the XKR. Make sure that everything works properly. Take pictures and bring a notepad.
If it passes your initial test, I strongly recommend you give the seller a refundable deposit so you can have a Jaguar dealer to do a PPI - Pre-Purchase Inspection - at your expense (usually around $200) using the same checklist they use to CPO (Certified Pre Owned) a trade-in. The PPI will disclose needed repairs and cost estimates, which you can use to negotiate with the seller. A PPI covers mechanical and some cosmetic areas, but usually does not disclose accident/paint repairs. For that you should have an inspection done by a body shop that is certified to do Jaguar aluminum repairs, since the 2007 XKR is all aluminum. Accident damage, even when done perfectly and invisible to the untrained eye, causes a Jaguar to be worth substantially less.
Buyer Beware. Do your due diligence. Good luck! If you buy it, you'll love it!

My first reaction to a 2007 @ $28k...... "Dayum. That's a fortune for that car!"
Totally agree with mosesbotbol, a 2010 XK is the same approximate price point, and three years newer with more goodies and very comparable performance.
Also, a 2010 XKR could probably be had for an additional $3-5K. A 10% bump in cost and a 20% bump in car.

OP here. Thanks for the feedback. As to the newer XK vs older XKR issue, I definitely prefer the R, which is not reachable price wise in 2010+ - I'm fine with the J gate - actually prefer leaving my hand on the shifter at times.
Took a look at the car - it's a 9.5/10 paint, 10/10 interior and top, 9/10 engine bay. The seller has a 4 car garage and six cars - a 16 Ferrari California T, an F150, a 15 Range Rover Sport SC, a Lincoln Navi, an 80s Saleen Mustang convertible and this Jag. All of them are ridiculously clean, as was the garage - seems like the right person to buy from.
We agreed on 25K subject to a PPI tomorrow at the dealer (not the one he uses). All records are there - no AC condensate issues (yet) - new battery last year, new tires last fall, antenna converted, no dash creep, nav/display works perfectly as does top, locks, windows, cruise (it has the adaptive cruise). This will be my daily driver till August, when I move it down to another residence.
It might be slightly high per KBB, NADA et al, but it's local, it's super low miles, its near perfect cosmetically, and it will be mine tomorrow if the PPI goes well.
Again - thank you all - looking forward to running through the posts - I already know I'll be ordering a CTEK.....

If you buy it, and I think you will, your third purchase (after the car and CTEK) should be theJangWrangler.com's Remote Top and Rear Window Control, it is the best mod you can make to any X150 convertible.
Many owners on this forum have it, including myself, and the seller is a fantastic member (WhiteXKR) here as well. You just can't go wrong with that addition to your new toy.

+1 on the remote top with the optional rear window control. Also, get a wind deflector, reflective sunshade for the windshield, CTEK MUS4.3 battery maintainer, and remove fuse 19. There are multiple threads on each of these mods.
Either way, if you're cool with the old-school antenna, and you love the car, buy it. I'm with those that will think you could have gone down to $24K (or 23...), but if you're happy, who cares?
Other than than the fuse 19 thing, all solid advice here. +1 on all of it.
It sounds like you have found a gem. As you can tell the members here without exception are good people, give good advice and service as founts of information. When you take delivery of your new ride, follow all of the suggestions above and enjoy!! Welcome aboard.
And the fun has just begun!

Day started with 8 am run to the dealer for PPI. Of course it was sprinkling - seller was great about it, though it pained him to see me drive it away in weather it had not seen see he bought it 2009. Two hours and $199 later, the report was 99% perfect, the 1% being a small leak at the trans pan gasket. Dealer quoted $800, so the seller knocked that off and deal was complete. Getting the gasket tomorrow (no fluid making it to the ground).
Impressions of a first time XKR driver: it was smooth and felt nice and tight at the same time. Super easy to drive. Comfortable seats, (fairly) easy egress/ingress even with two back surgeries to my credit. Was expecting a bit more sound quality from the Alpine, but I may need to play with it, as it improved when I switched it from Dolby to Stereo. I love the simple, clean layout of the dash and controls - very intuitive.
Paint, as mentioned is 9/10 - a few miniscule scratches and one parking lot ding. The front fascia has some swirls in it - need to get busy on those. My first black car (I've had 30 plus cars in 40 years). Pix attached - note a few small wear marks in top - I wonder if these are common?
Loving it. Thanks for all input.

The first thing that jumped out at me was the front bumper cover.
I hope there was a good explanation, as that is not a 2007 bumper, its either from a 2010 or 2011 model.
Its definitely a 2007, as the antenna stub is there.
When you said 'antenna converted', did the previous owner replace the rear spoiler with a newer version with the integrated antenna, or simply pull the fuse such that the antenna never rises?
Otherwise, looking good!

Yes, the wear marks are common. I have them with my tan top. It just happens with the fabric folding, although I've heard it may be more noticeable with the black tops.
Prev owner liked the later grill, per the seller. I have to agree - the 07 grill was OK, I think this update is spot on. The antenna was converted by a car elec shop to run inside the spoiler - not a new spoiler AFAIK.
That is a sweet-looking ride. Definitely has a 2010+ nose-- which I prefer.
Given that the antenna is also replaced, I'm assuming the front was another upgrade by the previous owner.
I give it a thumbs up. Congrats!

Thanks again for the advice and the feedback. I've ordered the battery tender, the remote one touch kit and a wind deflector. I need to stay away from Amazon....
Any tips on how to best detail the Senta wheels? These have hardly any nicks or curb rash but could use a good clean/detail. I have all the brushes, just wondering if there is a recommended cleaner for whatever metal these wheels are....
