I just returned from a conference in Pinehurst; a real resort area and golf mecca. I thought it was strange, though, that I was asked twice if my XKR was a Maserati. I said, "No, guvner, it's a Jaguah, capisce?" Anyone else have that happen?

Never a Maserati. I've been asked a few times if mine is an Aston.

I have been asked both. The important thing is that they know it is fancy just from the silhouette. I welcome either comparison.
My wife and I were driving home from dinner recently with the top down and passed a group of teens walking along side of the road. All the boys screamed "F-Type". With all the car posters hanging in their rooms these kids should know what an F-Type looks like. Go figure.

For looks I think the Austin Martin and Maserati come the closest. It also got me thinking of what other cars are comparable but may look different.
BMW M6, Mercedes SL63, ???

I've been asked twice in two months if mine was a Maserati. I'm contemplating custom plates that say, "ItsAJag" as a way of helping the uneducated with their vehicle acumen. In both cases, the inquiry was well intended and served as an icebreaker for us to talk cars, so its all good.

The reliability, looks, performance and cost of a Jaguar has the Maserati beat. The XKR is the best performance GT built, and a lot of car for the price. Nothing comes close.

I had a Maserati GranTurismo Sport try to race me on PCH. As I pulled away he did not know which lane to go to.
While the GranTurismo Sport has more horse power, it also weighs over 200 kg more, so the outcome was obvious.
I have had people be surprised that my XK is a Jaguar since most of the tourists to this area have never seen one...nor a Maserati as well...
I have also had people think the XK is an Aston Martin DB9...

I had a guy driving a Maserati Q-porte pull up to me on the freeway last week and give me a "thumbs up." Other than that I do get asked on a regular basis, "what kind of car is this?"

I get comments regarding the beauty and the sound (Mina exhaust system) of the car and have been asked multiple times what kind of car is it? Or is that an Aston Martin?
