Default Modifying an XK

It seems to be a lot more uncommon to modify the XKs. Coming from an F type, it's much harder to find parts to modify these cars . I would love to see a thread of peoples XKs that are modified and it would be great to see this to give other people ideas of what they can do to their cars. Also give links to parts for things such as lips, side skirts, rear diffusers or spoilers.

Body kits are a bit more rare but many of the 5.0 modification bits from an F-Type will fit on an 5.0 XKR no problem. It's relatively easy to get a bigger charge cooler, upper and lower pulley and a remap and achieve >600hp in these cars.

One cool 'OEM +' mod I'd love to do is swap F-Type suspension bits and steering rack on my XKR. That is essentially what the XKR-S GT uses to improve handling and turn in compared to a regular XKR.

I wish I thought of that before I got rid of my F type. I wonder how much that will affect the "grad tourer" feel of the xk. I cannot find body kits anywhere besides mina gallery which has the 3 piece rear diffuser and they also make the xkrs rear wing which I would love to get.

so after some research I've found that the best you can probably do for "body kits" is have the 3 piece diffuser set from mina gallery, along with the oem speed pack front lip, and rear spoiler. Luckily my car already came with that. So my plan is to buy the diffuser, black out all the chrome, and also buy an RS rear spoiler instead of my speed pack rear spoiler. All the kits seem to be very hard to find now that they are not being developed as much. The oem parts with some lowering springs and spacers really bring the whole look together. I haven't seen much of the kits you sent and wonder if the fit and finish is any good, but the grantly one looks a little off to me, maybe because its trying to be an f type. I feel like since the xk and f type are so close in price (at least for 2014/15 xks), you should just get one at that point because it seems to take away the beautiful styling of the xk which is one of the many reasons people buy them.

Paramount have been doing this for years and read alot of people ahve used Cotswold part here in the UK. I cannot say for others but at least there are choices. The Grantly one I would do for the motorised rear spolier and the over all look of the car afterwards it would be unique, it costs £10,000 but you get everything done and a bare metal respray whihc you can have custom like stripes added. A bit out of my budget at this time

I'll be the contrarian here. I'm all for someone doing whatever mods they want to their car (their money, their car). But there's a part of me that thinks with what's going on with Jag, I have to wonder if an XK kept (relatively) stock will be something that increases in value over time vs. one that is highly modified. For example, a completely stock '69 Z28 is worth more than a modified one. My stock 993S is worth more than a modified one, etc.
But again, by all means, do whatever makes you happy. Afterall, it's not about money or value - it's about driving what you like. (If you modify yours, we want pics!)
Cheers.

Totally logical. That’s what I’m doing, preserving mine.
But hey, every one that is irreversibly modded makes mine one notch more rare.

I used to think that these cars would eventually increase in value, but now I'm not sure. Too much outdated electrical stuff that will never be remade like the old analog cars have. Eventually all the electrical components will run out of availability resulting in a lot of unusable or reduced operability vehicles.
That's the savagery of technology everywhere; once new stuff comes out, the old stuff gets trashed because Old Tech. Nobody will make or repair modules or components because too old, and no profit to do so.

If you haven’t already, read this thread, it’s a fun read of what you could do:

Heres the car with some H&r springs

I plan on buying mostly hem parts, I would like to get the black grills and black front bumper inserts. Im going to buy the 3 piece mina gallery rear diffuser. It seems like a curb took out the middle lip in the front which is the hem speed pack so I need to get that and install some spacers. I also want to do maybe an h or x pipe, but im still deciding. The ride is defiantly a lot stiffer on the springs though.

Honestly I do not think they will increase maybe a little but im doubtful. I drive mine daily and don't even think about resale value. Jags are not known for that. It seems like xk owners like to keep their cars stock more than say an f type owner. Maybe it's the people who own them. With my f type there was many more parts used to modify it available, but its a lot harder with the xk. I think the older the crowds that own these cars are translating to less mods there are available. For example, BMWs have endless parts available to modify them, same with Mercedes, and this is because a lot more younger people buy them and modify them, of course they are also much better at pushing power than our cars. Me being 20, I am probably one of the youngest people who have owned an xk and f type, and most of the people my age have no idea about jags and the platforms at all because it is all about German cars unfortunately. Maybe one day people will appreciate the looks, sound, and decent reliability of these cars (depending on year), and see that they are not as bad as people think, and better than German cars.

Thanks! that's a little too much modification for me but its cool that the vision came to life. I can't say im the biggest fan of it though. I think mods that are tasteful and look close to oem are the best, but to each their own.

So I am fitting spacers today, I have the 20" orona wheels with 285s in the rear. I really do not want to shave the top part of the studs but I might have to. Has anyone had experience with lowering the car, then putting spacers on with 20x10" wheels. Was there any shaving involved with 15mm spacers or 20"spacers?

Stud shaving depends entirely on the shape of the pocket on the backside of the wheel spoke. Is it deep enough and wide enough to fit the original wheel stud and a nut?

yup defiantly need to shave them. Does anyone know anyone who makes an xkrs gt front bumper that's not a crazy amount of money? trying to figure out how to get one. I see meduza design has one but I don't see great reviews.
