My Fuel Economy is Increasing
My car is my daily driver. I drive it 17 miles to work and 19 miles home each day (I take a different route each direction). My drive TO work is on back roads with a few stop signs and a couple of stop lights. My drive home is on the freeway where I usually hit 80-85 MPH, and I'm still getting passed.
Three to four months ago I was averaging about 21.4 to 21.5 MPG. Then I did several things to my car and now I've been getting 23.4 MPG consistently for several fill ups. Here's what I did:
After having done all of this, I am absolutely certain that my fuel economy has improved by roughly 2 miles per gallon. The vast majority of my driving is on the same route, day after day. I haven't changed my driving style, so something I have done has increased my fuel economy. Unfortunately, since I did them all around the same time, I can't point to a specific item that did the trick. It might be a combination of things.
One other thing that might have made a difference, at some point the oil companies switched from their winter blend to their summer blend. I don't know how much of a fact it may have been. I guess I'll find out this fall.
And before anyone criticizes me for mixing oil additives, I did my research first. There are some people on the internet who say MotorKote is damaging to the engine because it contains chlorine, which turns into hydrochloric acid in the engine. I emailed MotorKote and had them send me their SDS for the product. Their SDS says it doesn't contain anything with chlorine in it. But I bought some test strips to measure the PH of the oil, and the MotorKote hasn't made my engine oil acidic.

- I did an engine oil flush using Liqui Moly Pro-line Engine Flush.
- I refilled the oil with Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic 5W-20. This was actually the third oil change in about 2000 miles as I was trying to make sure my engine was sludge-free.
- I put a bottle of Liqui Moly Cera-Tec oil additive in the crank case.
- I added 14 ounces of MotorKote to the oil (2 ounces per quart).
- I drilled a tiny hole in the plastic intake right at the "Y" where it goes into the supercharger and sprayed a whole can of CRC GDI IVD Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner into the engine to clean the valves.
- I ran several different bottles of various brands of fuel injector cleaner through the tank. All of the brands contained PEA.

For what it's worth, I spent a day driving around with the car not in dynamic mode, all the slip controls and whatnot turned on, and I drove using the cruise control as much as possible and my MPG went up considerably.
Apparently constantly getting your foot into it to feel the backend slip a bit, loving the exhaust sound, engine braking, and barnstorming through turns uses more gas. Who knew?
