This is the saga of my multiple grill changes on my '09 XK. I think I'm finally satisfied with the result.
When I purchased the car, it came with a black grill. I never cared for it as a black grill on a black car just made the front end lose its shape and look like a big black mass, IMHO, especially at a distance. (no offense to those who like black grills on black cars). Below:
So, I changed it to the same style, only in silver/gray. This is my favorite/preferred style, and thought it looked better, giving some definition to the front end. But I never cared for the horizontal bar in the lower opening. I searched and searched for a lower grill (XKR style) in the same style, but they just don't exist. The XKR has this style lower grill, but it's a different shape than the '07 - '09 XK opening. Don't ask me how I know it doesn't fit.
Below:
Still determined to have the XKR look, i.e. a lower grill, I purchased the XKR grill combination specifically for the '07 - 09 XK from Welsh Enterprises. (great business and outstanding customer service, BTW). The grills included the round housing for the badge, but not the badge and I ordered that separately. So, for the 2nd time, I removed the front bumper cover to install new grills. The grills are the metal mess style in chrome, but I felt the chrome looked a little too bling-y. Spray primer and silver paint (prior to installation) took care of that.
I think I'm finally satisfied with the result. And even if not, I'm not removing/reinstalling the bumper cover a 3rd time.
Now my XK has XKR grills, XKR chrome finder vents, and the XKR quad tip muffler. I like those cosmetic mods, but I'm not enough of a poser to add the "R" badge to the rear. ;-)
