Navigation Problems
My screen only blacks out when I try to use navigation. It actually does several things at different times, beeps but will not go past the "Agree" screen, appears to look like horizontal hold has failed but only on navigation. Freezes, I may drive many miles without the map moving then suddenly snaps to correct position. I think these symptoms may be heat related, did this all the time last summer, but when the weather cooled down it worked pretty well. Now that we are back up into the high 70's the problem is back.

Care to swap problems?
You refer to a number of issues with the Touchscreen.
There's a TSB about the Touchscreen freezing or changing without driver input casued by incorrect gap between it and the bezel.

As you think the issue could be heat related, the gap may be closing in hot weather. Worth checking.

CeeJay, I did give your suggestion a try. Took forever for the thing to boot back up, but it didn't make a difference.
DSD, all you say is worthwhile, I even considered pulling the unit out and re-soldering all of the connections in it. I will look for a cleaner disc and give that a try.
Graham, Thanks for the Tech Bulletin, I had not seen that one. It could be worth a try but all of my symptoms only occur when trying to use the Navi. All other touch screen functions work correctly.
Strange that the horizontal stabilizer only fails when Navi is selected, and it doesn't do it all the time. Well, I'll keep trying and keep posting as progress is made.

On my 2007 XK, I had to swap discs crossing into Spain from France and then again on my return. The nav displayed immediately. A lengthy boot suggests yours is installing the software again.

Hey JackJohn. Have you had the touch screen or the Nav DVD unit out?
Are you getting any error codes?
Sounds more like a problem with the DVD/ DVD drive than the head unit and/or possibly an issue with MOST. Are the fiber optic lines in tact? Shooting darts here.
The DVD's are always spinning. I have to believe some wear out. Is there another forum member near you who can lend you their disks to eliminate the obvious? The older ones sell for cheap on eBay. $30 to eliminate the disks/drive.

Hi Sean, neither touch screen nor Nav unit have been out during my tenure, also worked perfectly for the first year I owned it. No error codes either on the display or through my iCarSoft code reader. I have not checked the fiber line, may be worth checking but my experience with glass is it either works or it doesn't.
Graham, I had not thought about it reloading the software, that would be unusual and I think would point to the DVD player.

I've pretty much decided not to use the nav system any more. It has more problems than I have patience for. it is after all a ten year old obsolete system. Even Jaguar has not updated a set of disks for North America, since 2013. A new or updated portable Garmin GPS, on my windscreen with a suction cup is much better.
