Tough call, but as long as you are gathering opinions, I think the 4.2 motor is a tried an proven platform for long term (10years+ ?) reliability. The 5.0 is still new, and although known problems are few, there is no real track record to compare the reliability levels as of yet.

Food for thought.

Very good points, comparison drive tests are in order.

With over 400 horsepower, to what limit do you have to drive to see a difference of
50 horses, on US roads??

Certainly if you are going to be on summer tires, it should be warm out. I can't even go WOT in my '07 XKR now because it's too cold out!

I agree with you. The changes in 2010 are quite a few beyond the engine. I was able to get a new 2010 for less than a used 2009 XKR. I drove them both, and could not tell that much difference in the power because of the new 5.0 liter. The leather interior looked like it had a higher grade (soft grain) of leather. The 2010 XK had a leather covered dash with contrasting stitching. Some of the auto enthusiast magazines thought the 2010 XK was almost the equivalent of the 2009 and previous XKR. In 2010 the XK came standard with B&W 525w sound system, heated and cooled 16-way adjustable seats, heated steering wheel. Jaguar published 0-60mph figures for the 2009 XKR vs the 2010 XK are 4.9sec vs 5.2 sec for the coupe versions. Mabybe that's why I could not tell much difference when I drove them both.

I visited a local Jaguar showroom today, and had a chance to inspect, turn-on (but not drive), several XK models. With the help of this wonderful forum, the information and advice from knowledgeable participants, I have come to a model decision. In the next several months I will be shopping for a 2010 Jaguar XK. I will post my purchase.
Thank you yo' all.

Haha, that's how I got started--revving the engine at a Jaguar dealership. The sound alone sold me on the XKR.
