Default New 2021 F-type looks tempting....

https://www.jaguarforums.com/article...jaguar-f-type/

This new version looks much better than last year in my opinion. I didn't like the hood vents from previous years but they seem to have gotten them right on the 2021. Much nicer front end and some cooler looking headlights/taillights.

The 'R' comes with the same engine and HP from last year's 'SVR' but for much cheaper. I don't know if they are on sale yet but dam I wouldn't mind scheduling a test drive.

This may be the next car in a few years, you know, when that classic Jaguar depreciation hits and I can afford a used one!

i dislike the sharper lines it has, as compared to the XK. in particular the headlights make it look like an audi. ultimately though, i can't fault the decision for the design to go this way if it sells well. that's good for jaguar.

besides, the whole rest of the car is fantastic.

Looks good. There goes the resale value of the over priced, over hacked SVR.

I agree, it's much improved if viewed from the outside. However, from the seat it looks too much like an XE. Same wheel and switch gear taunting you every day, same gauges
to remind you of parts bin interchangeability and minimal seat adjustments compared to an XK, Unfortunately I spend most of my time inside looking out.

And its a V8 thats not produced anymore, or first produced decade ago. With their latest engine being an inline-6.
What does that tell you about how much effort they put into this car vs the one they are saving up for.

SVR was the only one I thought looked good.

Consider the alternative, twin turbo BMW V8, the same engine that has rod and knuckle bearings as 50K maintenance item.

Plus, anything above ~400HP in a car of this size is purely numbers game, not something that a typical driver would ever get to use on the street. Plus, the more power you have, the more electronics you need to keep people from crashing with that much power.

Did you know that more than 50% of original Vipers (no ABS, no traction, about 400hp to rear wheels) were crashed by owners? My F-type, before I upgraded tires, would step out in 1st to 3d gears on a perfect dry road if I floored it with traction off. With better tires it is now only first and second gears, and I only have a 380HP V6.

I'd like to see what they come up with for leases on the 4 banger.

When they first released 4-cyl F-type here, they couldn't give them away. Factory discount of $10K was offered, and my local dealer told me that they would happy to start negotiating at $20K combined discount as they had 3 on the lot to pick from.

The 4 banger diluted the F-Type brand, IMO. What would you think if Ferrari put a 4 banger in there 488? What would it do for the brand?

Jaguar is no Ferrari nor does the F Type compete with any Ferrari. Jaguar is a volume brand and 2.0L engine is needed for many markets. Jaguar could do a 2.0L V8 like Ferrari has in the past, but I doubt it would be wise use of money considering the 4 cylinder that's available right off the shelf.

That would've been a great lease!

It would be a dream of dreams in this day an age.
You could overcome the lack of lowend torque in an oversquare engine with electric supercharger and direct injection and electronic valves already invented in UK and road tested on Aston.

Now the upsides would be mindblowing, It would put to shame all other driving experiences, including motorbikes. And the sound, imagine v8 doing 12000rpm in city driving.
Fangio the greatest driver of all time said the most thrill he ever got was from a similar engine. (BRM16)).

What a bizarre world we live in.
British have the technology and the art, but lack the money and public support.
Italians have the public support (Tifosi) and the passion but lack the money.
Germans lack the passion and soul but have all the money.

So is this just a facelift or will it be considered an entirely new model?

SUPPOSEDLY the next F-Type for 2022 will be all-new, and a mid-engine! Therefore, the 2021 is a minor facelift.

They will not do a face lift for only 1 year. They'll run the facelift for 4 years then...

Or two, as the 2010 and 2011 XKs had a facelift, then another one for 2012 and on.
