Default New Continental tires are on- Mobile Tire Installation

Hey Jagsters,

Just wanted to thank everybody who chimed in on which tires to get for my 2007 XK. I would up going with the Continentals. (2) 245/40R19 and (2) 275/35R19 ExtremeContacts for $837.00.
I also got a $70 Prepaid Visa Card (https://continentaltirerebates.com/ and a Two Year Road Hazzard Warranty as well (https://www.tirerack.com/tires/roadHazard/trhp.jsp . Great bang for the buck.

I had the tires shipped to ASAP Mobile Tire installers: http://asaptire.com/ They came to my house and put on the new tires in one hour flat. They used a gun to take them off and a torque wrench to put them on. The young man did a great job. No more miserable waiting rooms for me in tire stores.

I took her out for a spin and the tires felt great with minimal road noise and no vibrations. It is also a good looking tire and finishes off the Jag nicely. Two thumbs up!

This was a great day!

Michael - I'm curious what did they charge? And did they balance the wheels after installation? Their website doesn't provide that information unless you want to schedule an appointment.

Good on you for the new Contis. I had 2 sets on different cars and had the same reaction you did.

I'm pleased with the Conti DWS-06 on my XJ and when the time comes I'll put them on my XKR.

Did you use the OEM 2-piece lug nuts? If so, hopefully the installer didn't bugger them. It's very easy to strip them so that the chrome outer shell spins without engaging the inner nut, which makes it really difficult to remove. I never let anyone use a power tool to remove or reinstall those nuts and insist that they use the OEM Jaguar socket wrench because it's metric. The comparable SAE wrench is about 1/16" bigger and although it will work it will bugger the nut.

I bought torque wrenches at Harbor Freight for $9.95 and keep one in the trunk of each of my Jags. Torque spec is 92 lb.ft. You may want to do the same, and check your lug nuts and make sure they're not damaged. You don't want to get a flat and not be able to remove that wheel.

There are many threads with horror stories about the OEM 2-piece lug nuts. Many Forum members have replaced the OEM 2-piece lug nuts with 1-piece Toyota lug nuts, but they're a bit bigger and you'll need to buy a new socket to fit. Search "lug nuts".

ASAP Tire charged me $125 for the installation. This included bringing the new tires to me (I had TireRack send them to ASAP), mounting and balancing. It also included taking away the old tires. I think it was a bargain.
I don't have the original two piece lug nuts, I had replaced them last year with new one piece lugs by Toyota. I also bought a new wrench for them as well.

It's so simple use a single hex to avoid stripping bolt heads

I'm still surprised to see the amount of tradesmen still using multi hex and non impact sockets on power tools ..now imagine that socket exploding the damage would be horrific

I like the mobile tire installation but where we live there isn't one within 75 miles and they won't come that far.

I don't know if they did Road Force Balancing, but I took it out for a drive and everything felt perfect. They told me that they prefer NOT to go to New York because New York keeps giving them tickets. This is precisely why I left New York and moved to New Jersey...much better quality of life here.

Although I'm now a Southerner, I was born in New Jersey and have many fond memories of summers at the shore. Fortunately, since I was born there, I didn't have to complete the Application to Live in New Jersey. LYAO!
