Exclamation New to the forum, would like some advice if possible!

Hi Guys,

I have just signed up to the forum and thought I would introduce myself and ask for a little bit of advice if you wouldnt mind!

I live on the south coast in the UK and have just bought a XKR 2010 very lightly damanged category D with a view on repairing the car to its former glory and getting it back on the road again, I have attached some pictures to show you.

The car had only covered 30k miles and just required a new front wing, headlight, front bumper, bonnet, drivers air box and a passenger air bag. After a test drive in a friends and agreeing a price I couldnt resist! I have always been in to cars and have had many exciting cars including building myself a GTD40 replica however these modern electrics definitely are not easy to get my head around and mostly need plugging in before being able to diagnose problems so here goes..

The car was running fine when I went to see it however after taking the car to a friends bodyshop upon trying to collect the car my troubles started..

The car would sometimes start straight away, however sometimes just turned over, when driving home the dashboard had every warning light possible, I replaced the battery with a new Jaguar battery and sent the car to my local Jaguar dealer where I was informed that there was 4 pages of fault codes including a massive battery drain overnight A lot of the faults are probably due to the car sitting for about 3 months whilst the insurance settled the claim.

After the jaguar dealer having the car for 1 month and only 5 hours work going in to it (sore subject) I took the car away and had it transported to another Jaguar specialist. By this time the car would not start at all and they managed to break the steering coupler manouvering the car in the workshop as you can tell my luck has been pretty horrific so far!

I am wondering if anyone has had any similar issues and if you have found any solutions to them? also are there any well known problems which cause battery drains on these cars or starting issues?

I also see a lot of people have advised to put a Ctek battery maintainer on the car, can anyone suggest which model is best or which model I should be using?

Thank you in advance and any advice would be much appreciated!

Regards,

Nick.

I use the CTEK Muse 4.3. I am new to the car but read the Forum a lot. Hopefully others will jump in. The cars can leak down current and drain the battery when sitting idle. Many people seem to lock the doors when not in use and keep keys far away and avoid using the automatic headlight feature as means to minimize the issue. As far as your car not starting, you do have to start with a fully charged battery. Anything less than full is the root of most evil on these. Did you try putting the key (transmitter) in the slot in the console and starting it (I am assuming you have this on the 2010)? Also make sure brake is depressed fully. If no-go then someone qualified may need to start working through where voltage is or isn't in the chain...starter button, fuse/relays, starter motor...Once you get 'er going this should all be worth it...

Just fault find the current drain and fix whatever other faults there are.

Everything is likely to be related to it being a damaged car and so no-one else has probably had the same issues.
