New Hood Struts

New Hood Struts
I opened my hood a few days ago, only to find it wouldn't stay up on its own.
Went to Ebay and entered XKR hood struts. Many listings but virtually all of them for X100 not X150. A couple of the listings were for the X150 and were 3 to 4 times the price. I checked the measurements of the X100 hood struts both contracted and extended and they were the same as the X150. So, I ordered the following set for $25.00 delivered (I made an offer that was a couple of dollars below the asking price) per pair. They arrived today (48 hour delivery), and it took me less than two minutes to install the pair. I figured if they didn't fit or work for $25 I'd replace them on my X100, and then I'd order the more expensive ones. Fit perfectly, work perfectly and saved about $75.00.

Very nicely done Tberg!
Cars are just a collection of parts made by other manufacturers and for many items there are equivalent or different brand alternates available. Smart money if finding those deals. You are right though, certain items are best genuine.
With my BMW and previous Porshce the OEM brake rotors were manufactured by Zimmerman. Buying the Zimmerman brand was half the price of buying OEM. But, in the case of my Bimmer, when I had a pad fail and shredded my rotor apart it was very convenient for me to run down to the dealer and buy a new replacement front rotor set even though I had to pay twice as much. I looked at it as the price of convenience, was able to change out the front pads and rotor and back on the road in a day. Then ordered the Zimmerman equivalent for the rears and did them the next week, time allows for a budget fix.
