Unhappy New Owner XKR Screen Issues

Hi guys, I recently bought a used 2007 XKR from a private seller. He told me since he had the battery changed last time his screen went out. I checked all the fuses and had the screen light up for a second when I pulled out the F22 fuse (Phone,EMS,Power) on the rear compartment box, but its went out again shortly after a few seconds of blinking the Jaguar logo. After that I decided to check the battery as I have read that there might be a issue due to low voltage. The test showed the battery was in fact end of life. So I replaced it with a H8 EverStart 900CCA Battery from Walmart. The screen again lit up for a few more second while replacing the battery. (ignition might have not been turned off when replacing) this time the screen didn't blink but just showed the Jaguar logo for a few more seconds longer only to again go out and never come back. I honestly have no clue where to start looking maybe someone can help me? Is there a restart procedure I need to do? The car didn't come with a owners manual. Now Winter is closing in and i have no control over the HVAC system. I called my local Jaguar but they are booked 3 week ahead!!

While your battery may be new it may not have a full charge. Charge it as it may make all the difference. These cars are VERY picky about a full charge.

+1 - make sure you have 12.5 volts at the terminals. Often those batteries are just sitting on a shelf collecting dust for too long.

First of all thank you for the quick response. Secondly I forgot to mention, I did realize the battery wasn't fulled charged after purchasing it and installing it. So I put it on over night this older charger I have at the house. After a 12 hour charge the charger Amp was stationary at about roughly 0.5- 1 Amp. Guess I will go try to exchange this battery for a better newer one tomorrow, this time bringing a voltage gauge with me. Hope it resolves my issue. My alternator was also tested as a local shop they said it seems on the low side but was given a pass by the auto Diagnosis, But this just doesn't seem like it could be the problem after charging the battery independently over night.

One last thing. Does anyone know how to get into the Trip Computer on screen diagnosis? I remember accidentally getting into there playing around with ignition and trip button and seeing on board voltage read outs, but I have never been able to get back into there.

Ok. Try a hard reset. Remove the neg cable first, then the pos cable. Hold the cables together for a couple of minutes. Reconnect the Pos cable, then the Neg cable. This is a hard reset which will discharge any capacitors.

Next, have someone crank the engine while you have the voltmeter on the terminals. If voltage drops to 9.4 - battery is toast. None of this will cost you anything but time.

We all highly recommend getting a battery maintainer and use it ( I recommend nightly). Ctek is the beloved brand.

Lastly, on your trip to the auto parts store, have them load test the battery and in addition, get a charger that gives you 2 amp, 10 am and 50 amp settings. The 50 amp will allow you to start your car right away and you can see if your screen lights up.

Still smells like a battery problem to me.

If the battery is good, we'll need to move on to reading codes.

I have come to learn by trial and error,

if you are using the USB port with incompatible devices
your screen will sometimes not come on and act erradically.

Also if you load a USB flash drive and put long mixes in it
this will also cause your screen to not come on properly
from time to time.

I suggest removing any USB/IPOD devices and see if
this solves your problem first, as this can cause
intermitten screen problems..

Hey guys.

Went through this myself a while back. It ended up there was a loose ground connection in the passenger side foot well, against the outer wall of the car (directly behind the lower right edge of the glove box). Tightened it up and its been fine since.

So a fallow up. I tested the new battery and its running at 12.57 volts. No issues there. My local garage had some Jaguar specialist come by to check it out. He says most likely will need screen replaced. I ordered a used one and now will just have so wait and see..

Default XK screen issues

Recently bought a 2014 XK Cp. The touch screen would seem to work fine at night, but during the day it would go black after several minutes of driving Sometimes the touch functions would work but not other times.
I tried disconnecting battery to reset, but had made no difference.
I ended up buying a remanufactured touch screen on Ebay for $550. Working great now! No programming needed.

I'm really curious what the actual 're-manufacturing' was.
