Default XK convertible top replacement- worth it value wise?

Hi. I have a 2007 red XK convertible with 90,000 miles. It’s in good shape, it runs well and looks good. The top is original, however, and it does not leak and it works fine, but it looks rather rough. If I have the top replaced, would I be likely to recoup the money for the top if I were to sell the car? Thanks much, BabydriverX

Nope, but it will make it easier to sell.

Try a renovation product like Renovo it recolours and waterproofs the top

One rarely recoups money spent on cars. But as wymjym said, it will make it easier to sell.

I was thinking of the same question and decided not to go till any problems occurs with existing top. Despite i have a brand new original top as a spare.

A new top will run you 3k for aftermarket one. Factory top is 5k without installation…

Recoup the money on maintenance?? Really?!
While you're at it, add in all the other maintenance as well... good luck with that.

Default Worth It To Me

The rear window was falling out quite some time ago, and I reset the entire window using 3M Window Weld. It looked good, but after just a couple of years, it started to separate again. I bought myself about 5 years with doing spot repairs, but with each one it looked less and less attractive. I thought it would cost me a fortune, but I went ahead and bit the bullet taking it to my upholstery guy. Surprisingly the top was $1,900 and his labor $1,200. He had my car for less than a full day. I went with the aftermarket which is ever so slightly different. The canvas, stitching, and color are exact. The only difference was how the rear window was mounted. It has a very small rubber seal rather than it being mounted from behind like the OEM. It appears to be a much more resilient mount though.

With that, I am so glad I did it. Sure, it helps the resale value, but just the feeling of satisfaction having it right is priceless. It truly brings it from looking its age to looking like something special. You may or may not realize the return on the cost, but the speed in which it sells would be like night and day. Best of luck on your decision. I hope I helped.

I am very happy with the aftermarket top that I recently had installed. With the exception of the small logo in the bottom left corner of the rear glass, it looks exactly like the OEM top. There is no rubber gasket around the rear glass.
