Thumbs up New XK Owner - Me

Well, I am back for another round of Jaguar ownership! I was between an XK, Maserati GrandSport, or 911 and the Jag won out!

As being a current Jaguar owner, the engine has been very reliable and easy for the indie Jag repair places to deal with. I was concerned about being stuck with dealer only repairs on my next car.

I was always quite taken by the quality in general of the XK compared to the other two, and the classic good lines are timeless (well that can be said on all three). Having to be stuck with paddle shifters was an X on the Maserati, along with finding a good one I could at least test drive. The 911... well is 911 and I am not really that kind of guy. I am port drinking, corgi owning young man, not in a middle life crisis who wants to project, lol...

So, which one did I get? Well, it's a 2007 XK coupe, Seafrost Green with Camel leather, 19's and has 16K on the odometer. Hoping to take delivery this Saturday and will post pictures.

Haven't seen many (never saw one in person) Seafrost Green XK's, or maybe I did see them and did not know. I am kind of red/green color blind. Not that color blind, but sometimes it shows...

The Vaden Plas is just too big of a car for me. I wanted to try a big luxury car for once and I certainly got it.

I moved into it right after my S2000 which was a daily driver for 4 years. Talk about polar opposites! XK is a good balance of toy car, and real car. We needed a back seat for the dog. Not sure how she'll get to back seat. I think she'll have to walk over the center console? How do you manage with a dog in the XK (for those that have them)?

You have to pull a Mitt Romney, and put the dog on the roof! :-)

Wow it shows that Jag are seriously changing, that you consider the Porsche 911 a midlife car while Jag XK is for younger guys :-)
I love it!
Not so long ago it seems Jag had quite a rep for being exclusively for over-50's.

I agree that Jag has been known for the over 50 crowd. The previous XK is a for an older person than the current one I think. If the style had not changed, I probably wouldn't have had the XK on my list.

Just as the new XJ is looking nicer to younger buyer than the XJ350 did. I wish Jaguar did a better job on selling the construction of their cars as that was a major selling factor of the VDP and now the XK, but rarily is mentioned when hucking them to the public.

Good on you. That 07 XK coup is a classic IMHO and many of the changes/improvements to it's design in the last several years have not improved on it. Except for wheel choices, I can't think of a single appearance up grade that add to the car over it's base configuration.

The thing that gets me is that Jaguar can't make its mind up about the front grills. It used to be that the XK had a chrome upper and a black lower, while on the XKR, they were both chrome. Then, in 2012, the XK got both upper and lower as chrome, and the XKR got them both in black. No idea what they're going to do with them in 2013, except the video I saw for the 2013 XKR looks like they're both still black.

I think I actually prefer the upper in chrome, and the lower in black, as that highlights the upper, and makes the lower disappear.

I too was looking to buy a 911 (997TT S) - which I think is the best Porsche produced to date with the exception of the carrera GT. it took a very special car to pass on this, especially since I'm a "Porsche" guy. The Xkr-s was that special car. Glad I made the move to the jag. Enjoy your xk. Buy the way, we only roll with black upper, lower, headlights, etc in the S-no chrome here!

Congratulations on your purchase. Seafrost is one of the rarest colors. I was tempted by an 07 Seaftost/Caramel convertible in NJ late last year while shopping for my XK. Will look forward to seeing your photos.

Yes! That's what I want to do, I'm not a fan of chrome. Where did you get your black grills? Or did you simply paint the stock ones?

Black grills are standard on the 2012 XKR and XKR-S.

Here's a couple of pictures. Have not gone through the car myself. Really good condition in and out. I don't feel as rushed as I may've been. Debadged it and put a coat of Connolly's Hide Food on.

Lovely car. To educate yourself on the XK Coupe design subtleties, pull up a chair in front of the car, site back over the hood and along the side and start counting "cut lines". If you're like me you will find more than you thought.

These cut lines define the shape and account for the way the car draws the eye. The average dude, even aware of these lines, when trying to take pictures, is hard pressed to pull in all the facets of the cars beauty.

For me, this eureka moment came when I has sitting in my garage enjoying my beverage of choice and casually looking down the side of the car. Dang! It's like studying a beautiful woman. Give it a try.
