O.k what is the correct oil for a 2007-2009 xkr?
So going to do oil change my self and going by handbook spec, which reads:
Oil specification from owners manual:
API SL/EC and ILSAC GF-3 An oil of 5w-30 viscosity meeting jaguar specification WSS M2C913-A or B is preferred. Where this is not possible, oil meeting API SJ/EC and ACEA A1 98 or ACEA A3 98 may be used.
Ok so now the oil spec on the containers first,
Castrol Magnatec 5w 30 A1 FULLY SYNTHETIC, Which states:
SAE 5W-30;API SL;ILSAC GF-3; ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5;
Meets Ford WSS-M2C913-A, WSS-M2C913-B, WSS-M2C913-C
Now second
Castrol Edge 5w30 fully synthetic which reads:
SAE 5W-30; ACEA C3; VW 504 00/ 507 00; BMW Longlife-04; MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51; Porsche C30; Fulfils the requirements of the former VW 503 01 specification.
After reading this my conclusion would be that the Castrol Magnatec is the proper oil for my car and models 2007-2009 4.2 xkr.
Any comments.

When it comes to oil selection for specific vehicles it is the Wild West out there. Manufacturers are often specifying oils that are difficult to purchase anywhere, other than at the dealership. The truth is that there are many different brands of oils that are perfectly fine for most engines.
I just had my last free service done on my '12 XF (5.0L) at the Jaguar dealership. Instead of the 5W-20 factory recommended oils, I requested a 5w-30 or 10W-40 oil to be put in, due to living in CA where the summer temps are generally in the 90+ range. The dealer refused, saying that the warranty would be invalidated by those viscosities. Being a long time track racer and high performance driver I have no doubt that one of those higher viscosity oils would be a better choice for me.
I also have dealer installed 5W-20 in my '10 XKR. While there are all kinds of opinions regarding the best oil applications, most high performance engine builders will specify oils in the xW-40 or xW-50 range, particularly for warmer climates. I plan on changing to 10W-40 for the XKR as the 5W-20 temp ranges are very low for a high performance supercharged engine, where Jaguar does not even see it fit to display the oil temperatures.

Here we go again, went to the auto shop to get the magnatec A1 as it is the nearest to the manual spec. He told be it has now been superseded by magnatec 5w30 A5. I said was he sure and he phoned Castrol Ireland while i was there. So now it looks like i am going for this, it states that it has the same requirement as the A1.
Holy crap such s**t. Info on Magnatec A5 below.

Castrol Magnatec or Castrol Edge?
I was curious about the difference between Castrol Magnatec (rated WSS-M2C913-A) and Castrol Edge (rated API SL/EC) oils. As a result of my research, I concluded that:
1. WSS-M2C913-x (x suffix=A, B, C, or D) is a specification created by Ford Motor Company for 5w-30 viscosity oil. The suffix denotes the recommended oil for gasoline, diesel, extended range, fuel economy or suitability with biodiesel fuel. See: Ford Oil Specifications - oilspecifications.org "The Ford M2C913-B specification is released in Europe for initial fill engine oils used for lubrication of spark ignition engines using gasoline and for compression ignition engines using diesel fuels."
2. 2. API SL is a specification created by the American Petroleum Institute for 2004 and older automotive engines. See page 3: http://www.api.org/~/media/files/cer...glish_2013.pdf The EC suffix is an abbreviation for Energy Conserving.
Can your engine tell the difference between 5w-30 Edge and 5w-30 Magnatec? I doubt it, but to be sure you’ll have to ask a metallurgical engineer.
According to Castrol, Edge is their “… strongest, most advanced oil yet. “ See: Engine Oil - Car Products | Castrol South Africa | Products | Home . It appears that Magnatec is a notch below Edge. Both are fully synthetic oils. There is a lot of information on this website, and you can search for various Product Data Sheets by country, for example 5w-30 Edge in the USA: Castrol - PDS & MSDS Search
Availability of Castrol Edge and Castrol Magnatec vary by market. For example, Edge is readily available in the USA but Magnatec can be hard to find. Because it is Castrol's "latest and greatest", Edge usually costs more than Magnatec.
If this was helpful, please press at the bottom right.

Yep I just saw that here too. So for the 5.0L SC you would need 7.6 qts. It would be cheaper to buy 2 5 qt jugs as the 1 qt bottle is $8 and I would need 8 qts. So now my cost would be $45 oil plus $30 filter so around $80 instead of dealer cost of $120. Now it may be worth while to go buy a few jugs for future use which for me would be next May. I see the regular price was about $29 for 5 qt jug. Thanks

Did my oil change today, Castrol 5w30 magnatec A1 which i eventually sourced, straight forward job, although i hadn't a car lift, so i jacked each side and placed wide timber blocks under the front wheels to gain access to filter and drainage plug, once i had the oil tray in and filter off and plug out i let it off the blocks to drain. I jacked up the opposite side of the car to the drain plug as high as i could and i would say another 1/2 liter came out i would say. Then back up on blocks and drain plug in and filter on, left underneath cover off till i checked for no leaks. Back down again and oil in, put in 7 liters and then started, left to idle for a while then stopped engine and left to let the oil settle. On checking engine level it took about another 1/2 liter. So book says 7 liter for service fill but i put in an extra 1/2, i think this was due to me jacking the car at an angle and getting some more of the used oil out, shows what oil is still left in the sump pan if drained in the level position. So no leaks and underneath cover back on, just 4 screws holds this on.
