Default oil change ????

Good morning guys, It's oil change time. I have a 2009 Jag XK 4.2L with low miles (20k) meticulously taken care of. I am wondering if its ok to use Mobil 1 synthetic 5-30? Ive heard that 0-20 is recommended but for the life of me I cant see 5-30 synthetic doing any harm. I know these cars are very finicky about certain things. Thanks guys

Is that synthetic? How often do you change oil?

Yes, full synthetic. I don't change my oil nearly as often as I should.

It says right on the oil fill cover to use Castrol 5W-30.

Curious as to what oil filter you went with? I see Motorcraft or Bosch as potential filters for future oil changes.

Didn't even check, just took what they sold me at Autozone and handed it to the oil change guy. (I buy my own oil and filter then go to the oil change place to have it done).

I’ve been using Castrol 5W-40 synthetic, and Mann W713/29 filters on my 4.2L XK.

Stick with the Castrol OEM oil and OEM Jaguar filter. Not like they cost any more or less. You'll know you are in the right when it's the OEM product and specific specification oil. Why play guessing games?

I do annual oil changes, regardless of the miles or lack of is more like it.

The OEM filters are about $21 from sng, the other filters are approximately half the price. I would have no problem paying for the OEM filters if they are superior??

For me it's about originality and pride of ownership. Seeing an OEM filter means the owner wanted it done correct. I try to stick with the OEM tires on cars unless there is a really compelling reason another tire is "better".

I notice that the Jaguar-packaged oil filter for the 5.0 engines is made in China. Now that puts me off even though it could well be as good a product as well known brands produce. As my filters don't stay in service that long due to such low mileages I'm doing at the moment, I expect any filter from a known brand should be perfectly acceptable.

With tyres, I try and find better ones each time I have to change as tyres are a moving target and today's tyres are a lot better than those from 10 years ago.
