Default Oil change reset

Changed the oil/filter yesterday and all went well except I didn't get the dash notice to reset oil monitor. Is that normal? Should I go through the reset process anyway?

It is not really actively monitoring the oil, is it? It counts down the elapsed time since the last reset and monitors drive patterns, calculating a reduced period if you are doing a lot of short journeys, hard driving or whatever was programmed into the algorithm. Just reset it and restart the cycle.

When you follow the reset procedure make sure the mileage meter is showing and not the trip meter. It will not message you "service required reset confirmed" if you don't. I got tripped up with this, LOL.

I didn't know there was no active monitoring. So there aren't any sensors checking actual oil condition for breakdown? Especially since we can't pull a dipstick and look for ourselves, wow.

How would this be done? And is there any real value in it as if you use good oil, it should outlast the service interval. One doesn't need any more.
