Default OIl changes XKR 2008-2009

I would like to know if anyone here does their own oil changes on their XKR 2008 or 2009? They have an oil drain plug, so no oil has to be sucked out of the engine.

Also, if you don't do your own oil changes, do you use the dealer or a local mechanic that is familiar with these models?

Does anyone use a national brand oil changing store like Quik Lube, Jiffy Lube etc for this basic service. ?

I am told the dealer will charge around $120.00 for the oil change.

Your thoughts on this topic are appreciated.

I have used the dealer for oil changes. When I had my 2008 I would have the oil changed every 5000 miles until my service writer told me to quit wasting money and change oil at a minimum of 10,000
miles. He said that the new oils and engines are engineered to last longer without the danger of any excess damage.

I let Jiffy Lube do mine. Basic filter and oil change every 3000.... Zero issues.

That's just how I roll...

Default Oil changes

I do my own oil changes. Quite simple. I use Shell Rotella T-6 Synthetic Oil, nicely comes in 4 qt container and you can get it at numerous places. i use K&N Oil Filters (HP-1014).

I did note, first time I did it, the oil pan had slight seepage and there was nasty oil/dirt build up at lip. I dropped pan, found oil pan seal (molded o-ring) was slightly twisted during factory install). I reseated o-ring with very thin film of gasket sealer applied...no more seepage.

Do It Yourself, good for your car karma!

It's like taking the wife out to dinner for your anniversary and enjoying some alone time.

I'm on the every 10k interval as well.

I bring to my indie jaguar place. I buy Baldwin filters online and let the mechanic buy the oil which is usually Mobile1. I like to have my mechanic be the only one doing the oil so I can get some lift time and routine underneath inspections.

It was on my spring oil change that is was found my transmission pan was leaking. Yeah for him, it was 1.5 hours to swap the pan, new fluid, and $550 to me. He's seen a few with leaking pans recently.

How accessible is the oil filter on a 2009 XKR 4.2L SC?

Default Next to drain plug

Remove the rear under tray and you'll see the drain plug and the oil filter. Tip: you can leave the front under tray connected to the front bumper in place.

Yea, i would stay away any place with a "jiffy" attached to it.

If you can do it yourself, good, but if not, the dealership is a good place. And, you don't have to worry about anybody jumping in your car with dirty/oily clothes. My dealer covers the seats etc..

Oil changes are not for me. I did them in the past in college on other cars, but you begin to realize that 1) you don't really save much money, and 2) it's a huge pain in the butt to put the oil in a greasy container and lug it in your trunk to the recycling center/auto parts store. What a mess!

Makes sense what you say but, for me personally it is much more of bother to take my car out for an oil change and wait for it done. It takes me about 15 minutes to change oil and filter and and an other 5 minutes to clean up. To drive to the nearest dealer would be 1 hour each way. I'm already dreading the fact that I have to drive to the dealer twice within the next 2 months, get a loaner car, drive back again to drop the loaner... when I get my warranty services done for my 2012 XJL and XF.

Changing the oil also gives me an opportunity to look around the car to see if everything under and in the engine compartment is what it should be.

Just back from Jaguar dealership in El Paso, TX (Garcia Jaguar).

Oil change...... oil, filter, inspection of all fluids, and install 2 light bulbs in trunk lights....great service overall. $121.00 vs local foreign car repair shop @$90.00.....so it was worth the drive over to the dealer today to let a certified Jaguar mechanic do the work.

Car is now registered in their system.
