Default One-of-a-kind 2008 XKR-S 4.2

Been meaning to post this for a while; I was at the JEC 30th anniversary bash in June, with my car appearing in their Timeline display covering all Jaguar models and many variants. One that caught my eye was this 2008 XKR-S - because it isn't black! Apparently a Jag exec ordered his with a custom paint job, and it is the only non-black example.

thinking about adding a read diffuser to my XKR... I wonder if it would look ok without the side-sills. It would just be for looks.

Ngarara,

Too bad that XKR-S 4.2 wasn't available in the USA. I noted that it has Vortex wheels, which is my favorite design. I see you have them, too.

Do you know if that XKR-S came with Alcon brakes? If it did, do you have any idea where I might be able to get a set of those 2008 Vortex wheels from the UK? I think your wheels have a different rear offset since you have a 5.0L with the e-diff.

We have Alcons in stock. $1700.00 per caliper. A forum member purchased & fitted some recently. Let me know if you would like more info.

William,

Sorry my previous post was ambitious. I'm not looking for Alcon brakes - my car already has them.

I'm looking for a set of the 20" Vortex wheels as fitted to that 2008 4.2L XKR-S. I think they'll fit my 2009 XKR Portfolio without needing any spacers as I suspect that XKR-S came with Alcon brakes. The newer version Vortex wheel for 5.0L XKRs have a different offset and I think they won't fit on the rear without spacers.

According to articles from the time, the 2008 XKR-S 4.2 came with Alcon brakes, so the version of the Vortex wheels specific to that model should also fit yours. The distinctive thing to look for is that the wheel are unpainted, whereas the ones for the 75 are dark grey and the ones currently available are black. There's a set for sale in Germany:

Someone has pointed out there's a thread on the UK forum about a porcelain white XKR-S which was also some sort of special order:

And another thread on here that shows a metallic blue one:

Love those Vortex rims. They look really good on the XK. I also like my Vulcan rims but if I had a choice of factory rims I would go with the Vortex.

Default 2008 Special Edition XKR-S in US?

Apparently, announced at the Geneva Auto Show there was a 2008 XKR-S on display. And the announcement was that 200 of these vehicles would be produced for the UK. I have heard that 4 of them made their way to the U.S. that year.
Does anybody know anything about these? I think I saw one on the road, looked it up and saw that it was indeed an XKR-S and it was a 2008. And the owner mentioned it had 550 horsepower.
Does anybody know anything about these cars?

William:

How about a quote here on the forum for both the 4 piston and 6 piston Alcon calipers. I have a 2009 XKR Portfolio Editon Convertible, a very rare Jaguar indeed. Don't need any yet, but want to know pricing, now that I know where to get them if needed.

Thanks for posting.

The 2008 4.2 R-S had the same horsepower as any 4.2 R, around 420. The development work was done by members of the Dynamics team, and they focussed on handling, not power. Its special features were an aero bodykit (the forerunner of the Speed Pack kit), uprated suspension (stiffer & lower), the forged Vortex wheels and an increase in the speed limiter to 174 MPH. The bodykit added significant downforce and stability at speed.
