Default Open Exhaust

I have a 2012 XK Coupe. I would love to have cut outs. Has anyone done this with an XK? Much like straight ipes on my Harley. HELP!

As it says at the top of the Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center:

I've moved your question from XK/XKR forum. This is the place to post tech questions about your model.

Welcome to the forum. Searching the forum will yield happy users with several after market exhausts that 'open up' the sound, or as I and others have done, swap your XK back box for one from an XKR, and you will have enhanced sound all the time.
Haven't read of anyone using explicit cut outs on their car, but it's a possible option.

I've seen some installations of the newer style electric and vacuum cut outs so I thing it could be done . The challenge would be where to locate it but I assume that could be solved too. I'm sure a good muffler shop can make the mod. Maybe the OP can give it a go and then we can hear the system at full open.

I've run mine with no cats and just the stock mid-section with the 2 silencers, and it was almost unbearable.

I agree with bighenderson; open exhaust is horribly loud and would be quite "Ghetto" on such a refined vehicle.

Default Thanks for Exhaust Replies

Great advise on how to make my 2011 XK Coupe sound like a "Big Boy." I will look at changing the rear box to an XKR Type. I just read on the Forum that on the F-Type you can remove #19 Fuse. Wow.

Does your stock mid section have the 2 silencers in it?

Your car doesn't have the control software to use the active exhaust system of the XKR - but that isn't really a problem, because that means you'll be running it in open mode, which bypasses most of the rear muffler. The active system (powered by Fuse 19) closes the valves at mid-range RPM, making the car quieter - since you're after a louder exhaust, no worries.

Also consider replacing the centre section & mufflers with a crossover pipe like the Performance Active Exhaust option. Either the genuine article, or get a local shop to fabricate one, as other forum members have done.

The effect of the rear box + x-over will make the car sound similar to an XKR-S in Dynamic Mode, when the active valves stay open all the time

Try the xkr back box first before getting the x-pipe the reason I say this is I did it the other way around ie x-pipe first (which I didn't like at all found the tone very raspy) so I put the mid pipe back on then went xkr back box . As the valves in exhaust pipes remain open permanently I found that this was the exact sound I was after - perfect

Another nice way to add more growl is a high-flow catalyst. Dropping in a 300-cell or 200-cell will make an aggressive change. Certainly mid-pipe resonator and muffler change helps, only downside would be finding the right combination so that you do not have too much resonance.
I just finished up a fixture to produce race converter setups for XK's and XKR's 07-09, I will install on car with Borla mufflers this week or next. There is a video posted of a XKR 200 cell, 3" x-pipe and straight through resonator in the thread page.

I find the exhaust too loud for me with the valves open and the 100 cell cats it grabs a lot of attention so i normally close the valves but for this video the I've left them open

I did it on my XJR, best mod I have ever done to any car, period, and you can open them as much as you like, luxury car quiet to race car and anything in between.

I have more than one thread on it, but here are a couple:

Happy new year everyone!!!
Has anybody tried to fit an OEM mid section w/ X pipe from a 2012-13 XKR-S (C2P22073)
to a 2010-11 XKR? Looking at some pictures I found in the forum it looks the same.

Thanks in advance

As far as I can tell, there is only one X-pipe centre section, which should fit any 5.0 XKR - but mine already has it, so I haven't had to switch. I know other owners have done this swap, but I can't claim personal experience.

Ross you beat me to the punch lol

Correct me if I'm wrong but all mid pipes in the 5.0 are interchangeable except the n/a variety so yes it will fit

Can't go wrong either way

Adamesh is very good I've used them before for my springs so I can recommend their stuff

When it comes to their mid pipe with the x-pipe the welding and overall finish looks to be of high quality if I didn't already have an x-pipe fitted I'd love to have the Adamesh item
