Go with high gloss. After you drive for a while the break dust will make them Matt finish anyways! LOL

Do you have the Black Pack, i.e. blacked-out chrome? - the finish on that is satin, and it looks pretty good. Satin or semi-gloss is a nice compromise; it doesn't show every trace of brake dust like gloss, but it isn't as vulnerable to 'bruising' (getting shiny spots) as matt.

No black pack. The pretend air ducts in the front of the wheels are chrome.

I apprecaite the comment about the brake dust. This was the specific reason I wanted to go blacked out, cause the brake dust needs to be cleaned everyday off my wheels . It looks just disgusting with the brake dust on gray wheels.

YOu wouldnt believe the ballz my car has now with the smaller blower pulley. I cant wait to get the Eurocharge tune. Thanks once aging for the advice!!

I particularly like those front quarter grills blacked out - it takes away the 'chipmunk' look, one of the few design elements of the MY11-12 cars that I don't like:

It's not so bad on the latest revision.

In gunmetal I would go for satin, see Maxima's wheels but in Black gloss is definitely the way to go.

Looking forward to seeing the pics when your done, the dark wheels will really make your red calipers pop.

If hiding brake dust is your primary concern then I'd say satin-finished gunmetal/titanium/anthracite coloured wheels will work best, my other car has two sets of wheels in that colour and they hide brake dust and dirt pretty well.

You could also try some different brake pads as the standard ones do generate a lot of dust - Look for EBC "Redstuff" pads, the part ceramic compound make significantly less dust than the standard pads.

A good wheel sealant will help too by resisting stuff like dirt, mud and brake dust from sticking to the wheels.

So the way I see it you have two options to keep the wheels looking clean - either pick a colour and finish that hides dirt and brake dust or fit less dusty pads and be prepared to spend a little more time and effort when washing the car to seal the wheels properly.

Thanks so much for the advice on the pads. I am going to do the pads when I get the chance but I wanted to wear these pads down to nothing before I replaced them.
My only concern bout doing the wheels in black was that I didnt want to have the hoodrat look when I am going down the street

Here's what the Vortex wheels look like in 'dark grey':

It's a gloss finish, but because it's metallic and not black, it doesn't show the brake dust so much.

Which is why they've made the Vortex the standard wheel for the Dynamic R (the UK run-out XKR model), though it's in black rather than grey:

No worries, I should also point out that the EBC Redstuff pads give better braking performance than the stock ones too.

I'm British (well, Scottish!) so I had to look up "hoodrat" on urbandictionary.com - I'd have said it would take a lot more than black wheels to make one look like a hoodrat but my preference would be for dark grey wheels before black anyway but that's just me...

IMO black looks great if you can see lots of rotor and the calipers, especially if the calipers are a brightish colour. But if the wheels have a lot of spokes (like the crisscross ones), so you cant really see what's behind them, then they look like steel wheels painted black. Really pov.
