Default opinions please

I have a 2013 xkr ragtop, with 35mm lower springs, 15 mm spacers, ultimate black paint, 1800 miles, ivory interior and factory piano black accoutrements and red brake calipers, ( I know they have a formal name, but that is a spec that escapes me right now).

The wheels are stock and gray in color. my friends and fiance say the wheels should be blacked out. I want high gloss powder coated black.

Everyone, from fiance to men and women I know believe that high gloss wheels on an ultimate black xkr ragtop will make me look like a hoodrat.

They all say it should be a matte or satin finish instead

I dont want to wreck the cachet of a world class car by making the wheels detract the beauty of the car.

The powder coater wants only 80 dollars to do each wheel. (This doesnt include removing each tire from the wheel by a tire shop)

So what is it: HIgh gloss or matte-satin-flat black?? Thanks!

I would personally prefer gloss black. Matte finishes reminds me too much of dirty wheels and/or Plastidip.

I would go for glossy or matching painted wheels if you want to paint them. Flat black with glossy black just looks like a compromise IMO. Dark grey would look nice too.

That's the going rate here in nyc..... Also I prefer the gloss because with the matte finish (I owned a matte black g63 amg) you have to be extra careful to make sure no one ever puts any kind of polish or wax on them or rubs them to hard as that will cause them to lose the matte texture and ultimately become a blotchy mix of matte, satin, and gloss

If it has to be black then I'd say gloss. Bear in mind though, with black wheels you have to keep your tyres clean and treat them with tyre dressing every wash otherwise they'll go a lighter colour than the wheels and that just looks naff.

If it was me then I'd say dark grey/anthracite in satin...

Gloss, and can you provide the contact information for the shop doing the powder coating. I have some other wheels on a 2010 XKR I may want to do, and I'm in So Cal as well.
