Optical Illusion
Or is it just me? When you look at the 3/4 rear view of the XK coupe it has a long sleek fast back...When you look at it from the front 3/4 and similar positions the view of it looks kinda' weird and cut off. Anyone else notice this? Never really noticed it on any other cars.

The strongest optical illusion is probably the LC500. It gives off a false sense of perspective in multiple dimensions.
Viewed from above, the XK is very rounded front and rear, this gives an impression from a lower angle that the car is much shorter than it actually is.
In the two photo's of my XK the one taken from a lower perspective the rear of the car is less evident than the one taken from a higher perspective. It is not so much an optical illusion but rather that the widest part of the car is blocking the narrower part from view.

GM's head designer describes his current method in a documentary- He designs the cars as the shape should be, then puts it in a parking lot and sits in a camper at distance observing it. To mimic the effect of viewing a one dimensional photograph. Then goes back and puts in lines that make the shape standout in the 1-demionsional world!!
Its the times we live in, its all about the image on Instagram not the one in person.

Its so manipulated and contrived these days for the sake of the 'photograph'. Superfluous and exaggerated, overstated if you will. Like those figures on teenage singers yet to reach adulthood.

What you mention of GM is accurate, did you also know that when making scale models of cars the model maker does not in truth make a scale model? The impression because of different parallax at a different view distance when an exact scale model is made is such that it appears to be different from the real thing. The designer must behold as the viewer and alter the design from being faithful in dimension, to faithful to the eye.

The product I designed is impossible to photograph faithfully, because of the need to eliminate all diffraction, light and sound (and air to lesser degree) travel in the same manner. Why a jeweler cuts sharp lines into a diamond to create diffraction. Left alone it would not photograph well at all. I put one small sharp line in there with a big stone on my heart. And that was to make it look good in person.
