Opticoat 2.0 Paint Sealant DIY Detail
After MaximA's incredible detail job, I decided to complete some research and take on an Opticoat 2.0 DIY detail.
I bought the product from AutoGeek.com out of Stuart, Fl. I also bought a detailer product to remove any oils or other material that might repel the Opticoat 2.0 sealant.
I also clayed the car first to a glass like finish. I had never clayed a car before, and I ended up buying the Meguiars Gold Clay bar kit for $18.99 on eBay with free shipping, and no sales tax.
I paid, $89.99 for the Opticoat 2.0 kit with syringe and premium polishing microfiber towel, and the Detailers Pro Series Coating Prep Polish.
I have about $110.00 into this detail job, plus my time, which is free time since I am retired.
The results are incredible even for a first time DIY Opticoat 2.0 application.
This Opticoat 2.0 was so easy to apply. I watched many videos on YouTube about applying the product first as I was a bit nervous doing this to such a beautiful car.
Now the test comes to see how well it holds up under the elements. The car is garage kept and always under a car cover.
Bottom line, using the Opticoat 2.0 is easy to use, it's the prep work that takes the time.
I was also extremely impressed with using a clay bar kit. It was so easy, and the paint surface is as smooth as glass.
For anybody that has time to spend a weekend detailing your Jaguar to a showroom finish, I highly suggest this. At least try the clay bar and a good wax like Meguairs NXT Generation TechWax spray or paste if you do not want to try the Opticoat 2.0 project. The clay bar leaves the car with an incredible smooth finish.
Thanks to MaximA for telling us about his detail work, or I would have never attempted this project.
It was a fun 2 day project. The Opticoat 2.0 syringe has enough sealant to complete 2 cars.
There is so much great information to Jaguar owners that eminates from this forum. This is one.

Glad you found the post useful and your happy with the product, I can say I'm thrilled with it. We have had nonstop rain all week and my car still looks clean and water just doesn't dry on the car at all.
My detailer also suggested Pinnacle Sovereign wax to add a little luster and protection of minor scratches of the OptiCoat. Keep in mind it wont last to long as nothing really sticks to the Opticoat.
There really is a lot of good information on this forum and learned alot myself.

May I suggest using CarPro Iron X before clay barring your car. You'll save a lot of time!

For those who may be interested in how to detail your car, may I suggest you visit autopiaforums.com
There is a wealth of free information there. The "forums" tab near the top left will open up another world of info. I've been on the site for about two years and because of what I've there I confidently detail our cars.
As with this site the folks there are most helpful and extremely knowledgeable.
Best regards,

2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition finally detailed with Opticoat 2.0 sealant.
Total time about 12 hours as a DIY project.
DIY Cost for supplies including Opticoat 2.0 from Autogeek.com was right at $130.00...
Opticoat 2.0 $89.99.....Autogeek.com
Detailers Pre Coat Sealant Prep $19.99.....Autogeek.com
Meguairs Gold Clay Bar Kit $18.99....eBay
Washed the car....used dual action buffer with Meguiars Swirl X removal product....clayed the car w/ Meguiars Showtime Detail Spray for clay lubrication.......cleaned off excess Meguiars Showtime detailing spray residue...used Detailers Pre Coat sealant Prep....used alcohol for final wipedown...applied Opticoat 2.0
XKR turned out beautiful.......photos taken after 4 days after sitting to let Opticoat 2.0 cure on the paint surface under car cover.
It was allot of work, but for the price ...well worth the end result.

No waxing for 7 days after the application which is roughly the time it take to fully cure in war weather. You'll notice it becomes smoother, mine felt a bit tacky for a week or so. Simple car wax or sealant won't remove Opticoat. It just adds a little protection from bad car washes and some minor scratches while adding some gloss and slickness to the finish.
I'll see if I can get my detailer to jump on and answer a few questions.
As far as removing it, you would have to compound it off with a buffer, it doesn't come off once cured. I'm talking about a lite hand waxing with a carnauba wax.
Heres a few pics from after its first detail since the Opticoat and he applied a Wolfgang Sealant.
