Try adjusting the dip position using the 4-way controller at the front of the driver's door armrest. That's the round knob in between the left and right mirror selector switches.

First, shift into reverse. After the mirror stops moving, adjust the dip position using the 4-way controller. Shift out of reverse, then into reverse and see if that fixed it. If not, I think it might be time for a trip to the dealer.

Let us know if you got it to work. Good Luck!

This is too obvious but I'll mention it anyway. The passenger mirror can be adjusted to your preference with the car in R and it will remember that setting.
Perhaps someone else drove it?

Best,

Thanks to Stuart and Tflan for a solution in this two+ year old thread. I just got my 2010 back from the dealer for the 30K service (and a rear main seal leak that they found in the process, 2 days before my warranty expired). My passenger mirror was now tilting up instead of down when I put it in reverse. With my warranty just expired, I thought, "oh crap. No way!" I searched the forum, found this thread and was relieved that it was spot on. I changed my passenger mirror setting after I selected reverse, saved the setting and it's now back to proper behavior. Woo hoo!

"too obvious but I'll mention it anyway."
Not possible.
I was about to bring mine in.
Love these threads on this site. I enter "side mirror tilts up" and BOOM. Problem solved.

Thats the only niggle with my xk, the mirror does what it wants to. In reverse it adopts what ever position it likes, then in drive it adopts what ever position it likes. No amout of adjustment or programing works, so i am always using the adjuster during and after.
I just live with it.
