Default Pentosin CHF202 oe Dextron III?

Power steering fluid. I want to do a fluid change without a flush to see if my light and occasional steering vibrations go away. Of course, it can't be simple....
-2010 owners manual says to top off with Pentosin CHF202
-2009-2012 workshop manual says to use Dextron III with zero mention of Pentosin CHF202
I can't find any info if they are/are not compatible.

I don't know what's in there now. It's a reddish brown color. I doubt that it has been changed. It looks old but not terribly contaminated.

Any insight before I call the dealer service and ask? Thanks.

The Pentosin CHF 202 spec sheet says that the color is dark green.
http://www.pentosin.net/specsheets/pentosin_chf_202.pdf

The spec sheet makes no claim that the fluid can serve as ATF.

I would follow the Dexron 3 recommendation per the repair manual.

thanks Patrick.

now the ignorant question. Any old name brand Dextron 3 ATF or is there a special dextron 3 for power steering pumps? Looking online, the PS fluids aren't specifying dextron 3.

thanks

Then maybe it should be left alone.

If the issue is that the steering power assist seems to bog down a little when the engine is at idle speed, I would say that is "normal" behavior.

Mine shuddered and stuttered on occasion until I changed the juice. Pretty painless and made things much better.

You remember what brand you used?

Mobil 1 ATF. Here's the link to the work including cleaning the reservoir.

Yeah, also don't forget to clean the reservoir. Kind of a dumb idea to cage the filter inside so it's not removable to clean.

Here's the post for others to read.

Since replacing the fluid I've not had any problems with the PS system.

So, wanting something to top off my power steering, I looked at the owners manual for the fluid spec and ordered some CHF202. When it arrived I noticed CHF202 is green. Then I noticed this old thread. Then I realised I'd wasted my money and I'll have another tin of something gathering dust forever at the back of the shed.

Why does the MY10 owner's manual specify CHF202, which can't be mixed with DIII, when the service manual for the same era specifies Dexron III?

There's no "why," sometimes stuff is wrong 🤷 The tins of stuff gathering dust are the price we pay to learn things 😂

I mixed the two accidentally, no issues.

You will have issues eventually - these fluids should never be mixed and things like the pump and seals will suffer from having the wrong type of fluid. Dex 3 and CHF 202 are very different.
I have no idea why the workshop manuals (both the 4.2 [misspelt as Dexron] and later 5.0 versions) both state Dex III but the owner handbook does not

The Op misspelled "Dextron" - its Dexron. Service manual says "Dexron 3" rather than using three " III s" . The owners manual for my 2009 says Dexron III - eye, eye, eye captin.

In defence of the OP, it's JLR who cannot spell "Dextron"!

There must be so many x150s that have been topped off or flushed through with CHF 202, just waiting for pump and rack failure, it's a shame.

Maybe the writer of the 2010 manual didn't have a Lexitron handy.

CHF 202 is a synthetic hydraulic fluid.
Why do you think it won’t serve as power steering fluid? I can’t agree with your assumption.
