Possibly putting on R Brakes
Hey Everyone,
Recently the Jag dealer and myself in NJ priced out putting R brakes on my car. The total cost of front, rears, rotors, and pads come out to about 5k.
Do you guys think this is worth it? I got the regular XK because I knew that I was going to keep it for a very long time (20 years at least) and I did not want the liability of forced induction for that long period of time.
I love the way the Silver R brakes would look on my black 2010 XK (Portfolio Wheels) with some sort of vented or drilled rotor.
Thoughts?

Chances are if you are not tracking the car you will never notice the difference between the 2 brake packages in real world stopping. With ABS the XK brakes are more than capible of locking the wheels on a single panic stop and the suspension/weight distribution/tirese will be the major impact on stopping the car. If your plans are to do some open track time then you will need the bigger rotors, increased pad area and improved heat distribution, to reduce fade on repeated high speed stops, that bigger brakes provide.
I would say that if you have only street plans for your car then the main decision point is do the brakes look $5k better than not having the brakes.
If you have track plans then go with the alcon package but that will likely be more than $5K

$5 Can of silver paint...or my favorite...$5 can of red paint (they can be Alcons then :-). I have the R brakes, The Alcon Brakes, and the base model brakes on different xk's. I haven't installed the Alcons yet but would tell you the ordeal to gather the crap together and the performance difference that my low end driving skills are able to differentiate between the R (Brembo I believe) and the base model leads me back to my original suggestion...go for the can...I wont tell anyone if you don't....
