Potential XK(s) owner looking for insight
I'm in a "I cant stand conflict" phase. But I recognise my limitations. Watch this, and subtitute "women" for "Bruce" and "gold standard" for "cars"
The Jaguar aj133 is a ground up new jaguar design and modular. Jaguar has never made a modular engine prior. The even setup a new factory to do it. Do you know what modular means, the 4cyl and the 6cyl are just half and 3/4 of the same exact design.
By your foolish comparison a diesel and gasoline have more in common than a GDI and previous jaguar engines.
And yes dummy I have worked on one I own one- do you??
The lines of development are often blurred by marketing. All new can simply mean not interchangeable by optimization of the existing design, or it can mean a new principal has been introduced.
In the case of the 5.0, the upper engine workings are drastically different. While it is still a V8, and still fits within the engine bay of the out going engine, there are many new design principals introduced. Its not just re-optimized, or enlarged, it requires significant amounts of clean slate components to work. The primary thing in common, is the space within the chassis allowed.
The Aluminum XK150 is the second generation successor of the XK8, and if to someone who has been in both, arguing they are the same car would be quite silly.

No. Let's make it simple so everyone understands.
I'm pretty sure everyone understands but please don't let that stop you
Bruce - that was really excellent, thanks! Passed along
There should really be a technical forum here, for those that work on their on cars
There should be a forum for those who speak of cars they've never sat in yet they offer others advice on that would be a start but PLEASE keep going this is priceless! This was a treat to come home to. I once worked on a '76 Mercury Capri can I advise on working on a MG or Fiat? Those engines are similar like the XK and the XK8 are similar... just asking... trying to see where the line is because nobody here works on their own cars

OP here, I do not mind the total 180 of the thread. As I stated previously, I think I've ascertained enough information relevant to my purchasing of the two Jaguars I was looking at.
And an update to that:
I purchased a 2007 Jaguar XK Coupe for myself, a 2008 Jaguar XK Convertible for my grandmother.
Thank you to all who helped me make the decision.
