Default Prep Time.

Heading to pick up my jag (finally, I know) this week.

I'll be driving home. Long drive, by myself.

PPI scheduled. All of those types of ducks in a row.

Outside of anything identified by the PPI, anything I should bring or be prepared for during the drive home?
I welcome any thoughts, ideas, experiences (I've seen several posts about 1000+ mile drives home).
Want to be as prepared as possible if not over prepared. I'm just that type.

Thanks in advance for all of your wisdom!

Taking the license plate off my daily for the drive.

Why?
Because my stupid state will only issue a temp 10 day tag if you have a signed and notarized title.
Like what? The whole point of the road trip is to pick up the title and the car.
How the heck am I supposed to have a title with me before I get the title.

DMVs are just moronic.

Several years ago I drove mine home to WV from Minneapolis (~950 miles), but I had my son with me. Hit an ice storm in northern Indiana. Cars and trucks sliding off the highway left and right. Sketchy, especially since it was the first time in decades that I drove a rear wheel-drive car. We stopped for a couple hours to wait for the roads to warm up and dry out, and made it home without incident.

If you are using an EZ Pass, you might want to change the car that the license plate is associated with in the EZ Pass app. Was never a problem for me to use the EZ Pass in different cars until recently when EZ Pass called me out on it and charged me a few bucks. Small amount of money but for some reason it really grinds me that they did it and were inflexible about charging my EZ Pass account.

Good luck and safe travels.

Edit: Also drove the car with no real license plate, just a plate with a leaper on it, and some sort of little yellow slip of paper taped in the rear window. Maybe it was a temp title from the dealer or something. Don't remember. But I wasn't bothered by LE

I luv a long drive in my car. Have done quite a few. For me, I have a metal insulated travel mug, with a reduced diameter base that fits perfectly in the cup holder.
I keep the car on the 'coolish" side but put the seat warmer on the lightest of settings...
We ll have our own standards, I prefer to sit a little upright, slightly bent legs, long arms, eyes look through the slightly upper centre of the windshield.
Hate driving in jeans!
Hate stuff flying around the cabin.
Hate stuff on the dash or attached to the windshield.
(Even my leather duffle bag is bungie corded inside the boot.)
Hate over inflated tires.

Don't eat in the car! Step out, stretch your legs and eat in a civilized manner at a table.
And when you come back to the car, take a walk around it. it will cause you to smile.

@WVChris - I'll be driving through a tiny sliver of WV. As well as the sliver of MD panhandle.

Guy - You sound a lot like me. Have the giant Yeti with the small base. Will come with me. Cargo shorts for the ride. Zero clutter.
My leather Saddleback bag (sized for a pituitary giant) will be in the back seat, under the wind deflector.
It doesn't have Bluetooth (yet) so I am bringing two Bluetooth speakers that stereo together and can blow out an Olympic-sized swimming pool with sound. Setting them on the dash, left and right edges. In the back if they won't wedge in there.
Haven't read about these 'overinflated tires' in the forums. Hmmm....

Get a temporary transit tag from the state where you pick up the car…need proof of insurance…

It is in PA, picking up on Saturday so I'm guessing no-go.
I'm fine putting the plate from my other car on it.
Plus I heard the other day from a friend that lived there the PA DMV is even worse than NC.

Thanks. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow. Everything I could find on the PA DMV site was geared towards PA residents.

Close... but no cigar. stuff on the dash and a duffle in the back seat is not my preference ;-) Its called momentum and unless secured, it can act against you. ;-)
But have a great drive!

[QUOTE=Circumnavigator;2863835]Haha good suggestion, but I'll be keeping it legal for this trip.
Taking the license plate off my daily for the drive.

Brought a 98 SL600 down to SC from Erie a couple years back. Got transit plate at AAA. $50. Do not put the plate from another vehicle on that car. Big trouble if you're stopped. No sense of humor in VA or NC. And proof of insurance.
Check your fluid levels, maybe carry some coolant or distilled water and a quart of oil, travel tool kit. Then send it and enjoy the ride.

Just drove a 99 SL500 from Costa Mesa back to SC in May. Transmission was serviced, fuel filter replaced, carried supplies I just listed and brought it home. Fabulous drive.
I know this is a Jaguar forum, but they were already in the garage. In fact, I drove the XKR from Indianapolis home to SC and the SV8 from Cary - same precautions.

Just got home after a couple days of travel.
Yep, had my tool bag and a big jug of Peak Pink.
Seller let me keep his plate on and reg in the glove box.
Just said mail it back when it get mine in order.
Stopped every hour to check the coolant expansion tank and no level changes after it cooled.
thanks!
