Default Price check on isle 12

Just trying to get a sanity check here as I called the dealer I plan to use for any future service needs that I can't do and asked the price of an oil change. He was nice about it and gave me the sales answer which included a multi point inspection , top fluids , wash and vacuum the car and update any recall items. Oil change consisted of 9 quarts of syn. oil and new oil filter all for $160. Based on my assumptions it would be around $110 for parts and $50 for labor. How's that sound?

It sounds about right to me. My dealer uses $155 per hour for labor and the charge was $175.

Strewth! I just had mine serviced - $250 for labour, $83 for the oil filter, $24 for a drain plug (wtf?), $140 for Castrol A1 5W30, $10 for brake fluid. but the car has 50,000kms on it and they tighten up the steering rack (or whatever) it seems each time it is serviced (sometimes that creaks a bit)

Just had my oil changed this week at my local INDY. Bought my own castrol synthetic 5-30 at walmart for $21/ 5 qt bottle let's say it cost me 30 for the oil, 34 for the filter and 19 for labor, costs $83 for the oil change.

Sounds about right and fair. I usually supply my own mobile 1 synthetic because there is always some deal on it.

Cost me $8.50 a quart here so at 9 quarts I would have $77 in oil alone. I'll let them do the 1st one for me so I establish a presents with them. I usually do my own and because I can use a vacuum extractor here it makes it pretty simple. As for the filter I am seeing prices from $18 up to $50. I also have some SW updates required so I can have them do it at the same time.

My oil and filter change and multi point inspection from my Jaguar dealer was $130.00. That was 3000 miles ago.

Now this may sound crazy. I just had my oil and filter changed on my Ford F-150 at local Jiffy Lube. I asked them about my 2009 Jaguar. They stated they did not stock the oil for the Jag or the filter, but .....if I bring in my own oil and filter, they will do it for $38.00, takes 15 minutes total to remove the plastic shield (undertray) underneath, which they said is no big deal, as most newer cars have the removeable shields. The Jaguar filter on the 2009 model is removed from the underneath, has a drain plug and oil goes in at the top, just like a regular car.

I figure it doesn't take a rocket scientist or a Jaguar dealer at $155 per hour to change the oil on a 2009 Jag XKR.

I agree Rich and as I get more knowledge I'll do more stuff. I see there is a big difference in the 4.2 vs the 5.0. It sounds like the 4.2 uses maybe 5-6 quarts and the oil filter is the spin on type located under the car. From what I am learning the 5.0 takes 9 quarts and the filter is the insert (canister) type that appears to be costly. Next is you don't have to remove the lower tray or the drain plug as when you take the oil cap off there is a tube in the center where you plug in the oil extractor and suck the oil out. As i mentioned it would cost me around $110 for oil and filter so the labor is $50. I'll do it once. As a point my kid has a Audi A4 and once before we got it the oil change was done by a midas and they lost 3 plastic fasteners from the bottom tray and wired it up with tie wraps. Didn't see it until I did the 1st oil change.

Yes, it appears the 4.2L is like the good ole days of changing oil and filters. Fill the oil from the top and spin the old filter off. I already bought the K&N Oil Filter for the 2009 Jaguar 4.2L and will buy the CASTROL Syn 5-30 in the 5 qt container over at Walmart. If I had a lift to remove the undertray easily I would do it myself.

In order for me to take it to the dealer and pay that high dollar labor, I would have to sell more pens on the local streetcorner to raise some cash.

Default Oil Change Price

I had an oil change done at an independent garage for $28 labor only. I provided 8 qts. of Mobile 1 ($57) & a K&N Oil Filter ($15). Total parts $72.
Total labor & parts $100.00.

I see there is 2 different costs depending on whether it's a 4.2 or a 5.0. Is there a difference also between an N/A car vs a SC engine. Then there is the do you have the dealer do it or an independent or a DIY . Now there is the oil and where you buy it and the same with the filter. Almost looks like I need an excel spreadsheet to roll up the numbers , lol. The other question is if you are under any type of warranty do you need dealer proof of oil change or can you use receipts as your proof. As I mentioned I'd be in for $110 for parts so my 1st change I'll pay the extra $50 to have them document it. Next one will be on me.

9 qts oil sounds like a lot - shouldn't be more than 7 1/2 from what I recall.

Haven't done ,mine yet but soon. All I know is the 97 4.0 liter was the easiest I've ever done as there was no under tray. Didn't even have to jack up the car, just slid my pan under the front, filter and plug were right there. Boy I'm going to miss that

I also do my wifes 08 Charger and that has the under tray which just takes a bit longer and a bit of a pain in the ars but oh well.

I use a couple of Blitz Rhino Plastic Ramps (with rubber feet that don't slide!) . Oil change and filter a very simple task even for an 80 year old! They work great on rear too; for inspection and cleaning underneath.
Wal Mart for the oil and an OEM filter; bought a NAPA (WIX) filter but returned it; sealing ring too narrow!
OEM filters should not cost $80............

Cheers, Adrian

Isn't your car covered with a 4 year maintenance warranty which includes oil change annually and brake fluid after 3 years? I know my 2013 is.
