Default Rear lights LED conversion

Anyone done the rear lights swap for the LED units?

I assume the lights from a 2014 car will be a straight swap for my 2008 stock units?
I read a while ago than I would need to swap at least one of the wiring looms so the connectors mate but that thread I think used resistors added so no errors throw up.
I've heard to put in stop lamps/holders from a trailer light board and hide inside the boot/trunk as don't suffer with the overheating that resistors can suffer with?

Is it fairly straightforward and has anyone suffered with errors? I really don't want errors thrown up as annoys the hell out of me!

Anyone point me in the direction of a help sheet for doing this? Not a cheap mod so wondering if worth it but does make it younger looking.

Thanks Cee Jay,
think ive read that before and sounds a bit of a nightmare! Nothing seems to work 100% with even the Adamesh one having problems. Love the look but not at the expense of warnings popping up.

I did the upgrade with lights & harness purchased from SNG & instructions from George Kale, it was very simple to do.

Here is the link to his instructions PDF https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ps-upgrade.pdf

+1
Did the George Kale method also a couple years ago,no issues, looks great. Also got the lights and harness from SNG Barratt, great company.

Contacted Adamesh here in the Uk today about buying just a modified wiring harness. Not sure if they have now changed their method but the use the extra bulb holders rather than resistors that can get hot. They said if you send them your lights, they test for no errors.

You need a new boot lid harness, no resistors there, just different wiring. For the main assemblies, the pin-outs are different too, I changed the pin order on the body harness so I could swap the assembly if ever needed with a like replacement rather than change the connectors on the lights. Using the old bulb sockets is a primitive technique used for sometime for avoiding CANBUS errors and other LED quirks, but I’d prefer not to have incandescent bulbs crammed in the back that may need servicing at some point. Yes the resistors get warm and some hot but I’ve got mine attached to the aluminium body to act as a heat sink and away from any wires, there’s plenty of space.

Thanks! I see that help guide is from a convertible with a boot rather than a hatch. Not sure if harnesses are the same but assume so. Are the old lights easy to remove as looks like the fixing is slightly different. The lights I'm buying are from a 2014 car so hope they will fit my 2008?

The inboard lights are easy to remove. With the outboard ones, you just need to be careful to pull them straight out, so you don't put pressure on the tip that points toward the front of the car, as it is easily broken.
The lights will fit, they are all the same size. I have units from 2014 and 2015 cars on my 2007.

Thanks, straight out as in rearwards I guess. The help guide has an arrow pointing inboard (not sure what that means) but as the studs point forward, as you say, they must be pulled rearward. Hopefully will become clear when I do it! The new ones look to have three threaded studs but the old ones look to have two and a fastener type stud when looking at the pics.

The front most stud is going in from the side of the car, so you remove the light unit in more of a 45 degree angle to the car body, trying to pull the front and rear of the unit at the same rate, so you don't 'rock' it and cause the front tip to break.
You're correct, three threaded studs on the new, and two on the old (plus that press fit stud on the front).

Ah right! That makes sense. Will be clearer when new lights arrive.
